Here's a good early mafia/kidnapping drama from the director of Flavia,Gianfranco Mingozzi. It's set on the island of Sardinia and is about the abduction of the son of one of the local rich landowners by the local rural mafiosa,it's more a drama than an all out actioner but does contain moments you'd expect from the genre only more subdued.Good cast including Franco Nero,Charlotte Rampling and a nice performance by Frank Wolff as the local Mayor, the soundtrack by Riz Ortolani features some music that was used in Bandits in Milan the year before. The locations used are beautiful and make a nice change from the usual urban decay of Milan or Rome.

Sounds like a winner, I'd not heard of this one before.

Is your copy from a VHS Stephen?

Yeah looks to be from a US ntsc tape, had to turn the colour down and brightness up to get the picture a bit better but it's more than watchable and i'm very pleased i got a copy.
Anyone know of any other versions?

Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to watch it.  I've had it sitting in my Italian crime case for over a year now.

Yes, I'd ordered a copy online from ZDD which finally (due to postal strike) arrived yesterday. Interesting film - I read a review somewhere online (IMDB I think) which referred to the 'travelogue' look of parts of the film, and would definitely agree with that. The pic quality on my copy was a little grainy, but otherwise fine. Nice performances from Nero and Rampling and I'll be watching again at some point soon.

I'd agree with that, stunning scenery though and it looked to have been filmed around a cold autumn/winter which made the place look very desolate esp. the villages.

What's ZZD? :-\

They're a bootleg outfit based in Brighton that sells copies of films. They sell DVD-R's of Blue Underground DVD's for a fiver, very shady. I don't know how they get away with it to be hnest.

Yeah, I did wonder about that...the pic quality on the other disc I bought from them (Man, Pride and Vengeance) is fairly ropey but bearable. I guess I should be a bit less of a cheapskate in future!  ???

Just won an NTSC tape on eBay – worked out at just over £14, delivered from Canada. I'm really looking forward to seeing this.

The quality of my copy, which is from an ntsc tape, doesn't do the film justice at all.
Cool swinging 60's soundtrack esp. the opening credits :'(

A lot of those old NTSC tapes are shoddy. My DEADLY STRANGERS is well ropey.
