A bit of a surprise to find no topic on this (for it's time) pretty extreme Italian horror with what's probably one of the wildest monsters in Italian cinema.
Who actually directed this also seems to be a bit of an enigma?
I recently picked up the Image dvd cheap and it looked pretty good.
Included was the US version (possibly a bit re-edited?)
Really liked this weird gothic horror even if the romantic interlude wrecked it's pacing a bit.
Another bonus was the great soundtrack.
Listen to a bit here.

I've been meaning to pick this one up but for whatever reason I've never gotten around to doing so. It does sound rather nice, plus I am somewhat of a fan of the female lead, Annie Alberti. She only appeared in a handful of films but was a very important star of the so-called "fotoromanzi neri" such as Killing, where she usually ended up being brutally tortured and killed.

But Annie also played the title character in an obscure photo-novel series called Baby Colt, which was directed by her husband and frequent co-star, the noted actor Gérard Landry.

A few scans of Annie from Baby Colt #2: "Ricatto al casinò..." (first published in May 1968):

The Image DVD includes the US version because it was licensed from Richard Gordon.  I believe he did the English dub so there was not a dub done for international sales.  Has anyone see any other versions of this?

Not me, but I would really like to. I liked this one quite a bit - especially for the soundtrack - though I seem to remember a bathing scene as plain out silly.

I got the Image disc a few days ago , it delivers the goods as a gothic horror , with a
nightmare sequence in a dungeon featuring a werewolf monster, a walking suit of armour,
a funny scene of the lead monster spying on a girl bathing ( one of his eyes is halfway down his
cheek !). I didnt recognize any of the actors  the heroines father with a bowler hat on is a
dead ringer for Norman Wisdom ! , an actor in dark make up and a turban plays a swami .
The castle looks like the "Bloody pit of horror " one , the music is a shade repetetive at times
( like Phillip Glass was helping score the music ) anyway well worth seeing .

Amazing film that yes, often gets overlooked.  As an obsessive leg and feet fetishist, the opening torture rack scene with the brunette is astounding.  The culmination of the scene's epic horrific/erotic quality is actually freeze framed on page 45 in the Glittering Images book LA DOLCE PAURA (SWEET FEAR).

Sooner or later I'll take a look at this very sought after horror very hard to find Italian dubbed.
Don't forget its great soundtrack by that musical genius Armando Sciascia
