I am uneasy about Pete Tombs revealing that 1.33 is the correct theatrical ratio.\The old TV screening was open matte and looks OK zoomed in to me.  Of course I can zoom in....but this just seems odd.  I asked for any supportive info available, we'll see what is offered.

I've plumped for the BFI release, it's only £12 which is a steal. Would be nice to have the bonus Larraz interview but I can live without it.

Congrats!

Can't say the answer of the OCN being 1.33:1 is particularly compelling. Surely there has to be more to it than that. I understand wanting to trust the BFI but organisations like that have been wrong plenty of times before.

The camera negative was 1.33:1. Perhaps it was intended for matting, I don't know.

What I do know is that Pete and the people at the BFI have been doing this professionally for many, many years. Personally, I trust their decision to present the film "full frame", and know that it wasn't arrived at without good reason.

I have a bad feeling about this but I get the feeling asking for more info would lead to some testiness.

I know the bloke who runs video publishing at BFI - he's one of the biggest advocates of film that I've met - loves EVERYTHING, is incredibly knowledgeable and is very thorough - it's in good hands.

Besides, whatever is issued is going to be leaps and bounds above the off-air recording that's doing the rounds, so there really is no need for any "bad feelings" in advance of the release.

It's nothing to do with bad feeling bad feelings, it's unease that 1.33 is not the intended aspect ratio.
Any film from an established international director in the mid 70's shot full screen is very unusual to say the least.

Shot full screen would be perfectly normal. Projected full screen would, with some exceptions, be odd.

Thanks for articulating my fuzzy thought there. ;D

Check discs are back in Pete's hands, so this is going to be 1.33 on the BD. ( despite my deep reservations )
