Symptoms (Jose Ramon Larraz, 1974)
« on: 27 Mar 2013 - 08:42 »

There's a bit of a discussion taking place over at Rock!Shock!Pop! regarding Larraz's (excellent) SYMPTOMS, which has apparently been screened recently (on the 13th of March) via a 35mm print at the Offscreen Festival in Brussels! (See here: http://www.offscreen.be/offscreen2013/jose-ramon-larraz/symptoms .) This is quite exciting, if true, as SYMPTOMS is on the BFI's list of 75 'Most Wanted' films (ie, films thought to be in some way 'lost' - in the case of SYMPTOMS no 35mm prints were believed to exist). The BFI have been contacted and, although a DVD or BD release may be a long way off, it'd be a dream come true if in 2015 or thereabouts there was a release of SYMPTOMS on the Flipside label or summat :D

I know it's a slim chance, but was anyone here in Brussels for the Offscreen Festival? They showed Larraz's SCREAM AND DIE too.

That's great news! Hope it all comes good and ends up on their Flipside roster.

Definitely. I'm really excited about this. Just wish I could have been in Brussels to see it for myself.

Anne Billson, who was at the festival, has said on Twitter that it looked to be screened via a 'bad'/worn 35mm print under the film's alternate title THE BLOOD VIRGIN.

This is freely available on CG - remastered and filtered by user embersreich  No hard-coded subs (like Jose's print above) and it won't cost you a tenner (if you ask Marc Morris above for a copy)

Best to make that clear before someone gets shafted sending either of them a private message.

Yes, this version is by far the best to date and I've been through about 4 different copies of the film. Not my favourite Larraz but definitely up there.

Mondo's LE will have the uncut interview shot for the old Eurotika special as an extra.
Most of it's 2 hrs has not been seen by the gen pop.
Special will not be on the regular BD or the BFI release ( so I guess it's LE for me again, although this time it's worth the cash, unlike LIZARD ).

Meanwhile Pete Tombs is expected to shed some light on why this is listed at 1.33 on Amazon & the BFI site.  ???  We should know soon via company rep Jared over at Bluray.com forum..

I've plumped for the BFI release, it's only £12 which is a steal. Would be nice to have the bonus Larraz interview but I can live without it.
