Framed by the 'Roses long-awaited reunion in 2012 and following them from studio to Heaton Park's emotional homecoming gigs, Meadows' movie will warm the cockles of the bands' legion of fans. While we can't guarantee a cameo appearance from Le Donk, the nostalgia - and tunes - should come thick and fast.

"This film isn’t a history lesson", explains Meadows, "nor is it a two hour concert film. It is a film about defying the odds, sticking it to the man and telling the cynics to shut their pie-holes!"

The Stone Roses: Made Of Stone gets a UK Premiere in Manchester, complete with an appearances from The Stone Roses themselves, on 30 May, before rolling out nationwide on June 5.

I'm keen to see how people who aren't fans of the band but are steadfast Shane Meadows fans receive this, I'm assuming people like Paul will be checking this out regardless?

When Did I say I didn't like them? Wouldn't say I was a fan but I don't mind some of the tracks.

A while back someone was going on about how rap is shit because they use samples and was going on about "proper bands" and "real music" etc, and what was one of the examples of "real music" they came out with? ....... Fool's Gold ;D

...and Jonny wouldn't be half as excited if they weren't a Manchester Band  :-\

I think they might want to tone down all that defying the odds/sticking it to the man etc ballyhoo. They weren't a group of black activists from the 70s Bronx.

Eh, and before anyone starts, no-one's bigger than the Rats. The Rats er huge.

I will - there's also a dramatic film our shortly that follows some youngsters as they go off to that landmark gig on the island too.

I must say, I don't know masses of the band's (or Brown's) stuff but do like what I've heard.

I hear what you're saying but I'm not that shallow. I really like them musically, the fact that they are 'local' doesn't mean anything at all mate. It's a bonus and I admit I'm proud of the heritage etc.. I must admit being at Heaton Park and being 'local' did give me an amazing feeling of being part of a piece of history as regards being a fan of the band and what they meant to me during my early stages of venturing out into the world as a teenager... Drinking, doing drugs... I feel the same about my times banging e's at the Hacienda etc All around the same time and all in Manchester

I've only ever been to Manchester twice but the first time was specifically to go to the Hacienda and see Cabaret Voltaire live in the mid '80's. had a mate who lived in Preston so we had to wander around the centre in freezing February waiting for the first train back. Got chased out of some car park by security, walked about a mile to a light in the distance hoping it was an all-night cafe and it turned out to be a newsagent. Ended up crashing on some steps at the train station like a proper tramp.
