Successive Slidings of Pleasure / Glissements progressifs du plaisir (Alain Robbe-Grillet, 1974)

This looks interesting. Has anybody here seen it?

Cult erotic drama from one of the most ground-breaking and daring of the post-war French filmmakers, Alain Robbe-Grillet, and starring Jean-Louis Trintignant and Isabelle Huppert.

A young woman is questioned by the police and the judges, suspected of being a modern witch. The girl who shared her apartment has been found dead, bound to the posts of her bed, a pair of scissors impaled in her heart. Does the woman have the powers to make all around her fall prey to her spell, forcing them to slide progressively into desire, lust and, ultimately, the unknown.

Written and directed by Alain Robbe-Grillet, best known for his experimental post-war novels, and writer of Alain Resnais Last Year in Marienbad.

This is one of the first in a collection of BFI releases which finally make the films of Robbe-Grillet's films available for the first time. Each title is released on DVD and Blu-ray in a Dual Format Edition.

imdb synopsis

A young woman is questioned by the police and the judges, suspected of being a modern witch. The girl who shared her apartment has been found dead, and a pair of scissors impaled through her heart, as she lay attached to the bedposts. Apparently, the girl has powers to make all people around her fall prey to her spell, glistening progressively into desire, lust, and the unknown.

No, I haven't, but I'm looking forward to this.

Mondo Macabro put out GRADIVA and were going to release a series of other Robbe-Grillet titles, but there was something on their blog to the effect that they had been outbid at the last minute. Looks like it was the BFI! I'm sure they'll do a good job.

They were "fighting" for the US rights, so it wasn't the BFI who outbid them, it was Redemption Films:

I watched Successive Slidings Of Pleasure and also Eden And After a few weeks ago and really enjoyed them both.

If you like films by Rollin,Jodorowsky,Arrabal etc and their kind of slow, disjointed, surreal style of filmaking with a dose of eroticism/nudity thrown in,then you'll probably enjoy Alain Robbe-Grillet's films too,i do!

Not seen Trans-Europe express myself yet(I must admit i'm not a big fan of b&w films generally, but will definitely make an exception in his case and get it anyway),only seen the 2 I've mentioned and Gradiva but enjoyed all 3 of those very much.

Trans-Europe Express is probably a good place to start,i'd say thats his most well known film.
