Christopher Connelly, Ivan Rassimov, George Hilton and Mike Monty fight for the destiny of mankind in Ruggero Deodato's highly enjoyable genre hotchpotch that will leave even the most jaded post-nuke film lover speechless. Does it make any sense? No, not at all, but boy-oh-boy is it ever entertaining! The story and dialogue are absolutely madcap, the action hardly ever lets up and incorporates lots of practical, miniature as well as those inimitable 80s optical laser effects, the photography is quite atmospheric, there's some unexpected gore and who could ever forget the fantastic Oliver Onions title track
I always wondered why this amazingly weird futuristic action movie has never appeared on a proper digital release. No acceptable masters available, legal issues? Well, going by some exciting news it appears as if the problems have been settled: The film has just been re-rated in Germany, hinting at an upcoming release from label KSM. No official information as of now, but I am already stoked about the prospect of watching this one-of-a-kind cheesefest in a good-looking and hopefully uncut version. Apparently it will even be a BD release -- maybe a good alternative to the rumoured Midnight Legacy release that never came to be?
