The Quatermass Xperiment (Val Guest, 1955)
« on: 31 Aug 2013 - 08:55 »

By chance saw that this was on BBC2 late last night so switched over to BBC2 HD and watched it. Was shown in 4:3 and looked to be HD. Really lovely looking print, did anyone else catch it and can confirm is was indeed HD? There is a HD source for this as Hammer had it up on YouTube last year for a short time, hopefully a Blu will surface soon.

It's up at CG already and appears to be very nice looking from some sample caps.

The Australian Blu-ray has the sequel and X THE UNKNOWN on it as bonus features... No idea if they're in HD or not though. Anyone know?

Yes, they are 1080i & look pretty good ( opening of Q2 notwithstanding as it's damaged ).

They are not 'proper' HD though, they are upscales. I'm selling mine on in anticipation of the Kino release. I'm sure we'll get the other films somewhere down the line.

Finally bought the The Kino BD and it looks really good. A great set of extras too. I actually think that it could be even slightly better as the restoration was done quite a few years ago and some of the albeit light damage could possibly be sensibly fixed now. I doubt anyone would throw the extra money at it and this more than suffices!
