That defeats the object Russell, the idea is to raise funds to make a brand new HD transfer without the campaign there wouldn't be a new transfer.

  • Aarrgghh!

I bet a pound to a pinch of shit they're going to do a new transfer anyway. The current one is somewhat problematic.

No it doesn't, he's said it after the target has been reached.

Caught this post over at the Latarnia forums:

"Now I noticed this on the kickstarter page ( & got confused as to what they are saying here )
IF WE CAN'T DELIVER OUR STATED GOAL OF REMASTERING ZOMBI HOLOCAUST FROM THE IN-CAM NEG AND HAVE TO USE THE EXISTING HD SOURCE THEN YOU WILL BE REFUNDED.
OUR FULL INTENTION, HOWEVER, IS TO GO AHEAD WITH THIS NEW SCAN. SO WE DO NOT EXPECT IT TO COME TO THIS!
This conflicts with setting up a no refund 'flexible' donation route unless what they mean is if they can't get the negative you will be refunded. Conversely if they get the negative but do not meet their goal, it's flexible & no refunds? "

http://thelatarniaforums.yuku.com/topic/12914/ZOMBI-HOLOCAUST-kickstarter-new-neg-transfer-BD#.VIw_X3vrPK8

I don't want to be negative here (no pun intended!) but surely they should have looked into the possibility of actually getting a new transfer done before attempting a fundraiser like this?

I mean, all they have to do is email/call the lab and say "Hey, can we do this?"

I hope it goes ahead - the target looks justified - but what happens if they say no? What happens if they do go ahead with a new scan and it sucks? Whatever lab they choose to use could have supplied them with a 10 second clip to give them an idea of what they're getting.

The problem right now is that this new transfer is going to have to look incredibly good or you're going to see the usual fan backlash over this release - which is something I don't think anyone wants to see.

Let's hope this pans out well, that's all I can say.

I fairness to them, that's been there from the beginning and judging by what they've said I think they really weren't overly confident at getting near the target, and that statement was more based on having the funds than getting access.

So they're aiming at Burial Ground now. Fair enough but I hope they put the same effort into Bloodstained Shadow if it needs it rather than a bottom of the barrel fan fave. I'd be pissed off if we get a superb looking Burial Ground and and a shite Bloodstained Shadow.

I haven't looked at the page but I think they're still going ahead with Zombie Holocaust, right?

Yep but now they've reached the target and found a new source for Burial Ground they're putting any extra money towards that as well.

  • j'aime tous les dvds.

I'm staying clear for now, terrible time to launch a campaign when pressies have to be bought!! If cash wasn't tight I would have been all over this (although kind of against these things in the first place without guarantees!!).

But still amazing response for the campaign and we should all be incredibly happy that these films (once notorious in the UK) are getting the worship and attention they deserve...fingers crossed for the getting the best possible image!

Good things come to those who wait  ::)

Disc One:

DOCTOR BUTCHER MD

Officially, for the first time ever on disc, DOCTOR BUTCHER MD will be released UNCUT. Transferred in 2k and restored from negative elements from the Aquarius Releasing vaults and from the original negative of ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST in Rome. DOCTOR BUTCHER MD is the official US release version, with extra footage and a unique soundtrack, which was a massive hit on 42nd Street and birthed a generation of gore hounds in the early VHS era.

Bonus Features:

Featurette: BUTCHERY & BALLYHOO: Interview with Aquarius Releasing’s Terry Levene. A brand new half-hour plus career interview with the mastermind behind DOCTOR BUTCHER MD, the notorious Aquarius Releasing and their network of east coast cinemas. The 86 year old legendary showman regales us with tales of the making and marketing of movies to satiate the rabid appetites of the gore, action and sleaze crowds of the 70s and 80s.

Featurette: DOWN ON THE DEUCE: Nostalgic Tour Of 42nd Street With Temple Of Shock’s Chris Pogialli and Filmmaker Roy Frumkes. Frumkes was the producer and star of the unfinished zombie short which features in DOCTOR BUTCHER MD. He and 42nd Street theater and cult movie historian Chris Poggialli took a recent stroll along what used to be the street which housed the world’s most disreputable cinemas, pointing out each location and its lurid details. Original footage and stills from that bygone era are contrasted to the Disneyfied corporate hub it has become.

Roy Frumkes’ Segment Of Unfinished Anthology Film ‘TALES THAT WILL TEAR YOUR HEART OUT’. Frumkes’ full cut of his episode of the doomed anthology film, accompanied by his audio commentary.

Featurette: THE BUTCHER MOBILE: Interview with Gore Gazette Editor & Butcher Mobile Barker Rick Sullivan. A rare on-camera interview with the reclusive Sullivan about the rise and fall of his infamous ‘zine and the outrageous story behind the New York street marketing of DOCTOR BUTCHER MD.

Featurette: CUTTING DOCTOR BUTCHER: Interview with Editor Jim Markovic. The former Aquarius Releasing employee (then soon-to-be filmmaker) reminisces about his days working for the one and only Terry Levene and his assembling of the DOCTOR BUTCHER MD cut.

Illustrated Essay: “Experiments With A Male Caucasian Brain (…and other memories of 42nd Street)” By Gary Hertz. The Doctor from the Butcher Mobile recalls his days on the Deuce.

Trailers: One Theatrical and two Video Release Trailers for DOCTOR BUTCHER MD.

Disc Two:

ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST

For the first time ever the UNCUT VERSION of ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST in HD. Previous releases of ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST have excised a 5 minute sequence from the middle of the movie and only included it as an inferior quality deleted scene. This sequence has now been restored into the movie, transferred from the original 16mm negative, as it was originally released. In addition, previous disc releases have used video generated titles which have now been restored from the original film source. Also a new color correction pass and further restoration have been undertaken, making this the definitive release to date of ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST.

Bonus Features:

Featurette: VOODOO MAN: Interview With Star Ian McCulloch. The ZOMBIE, CONTAMINATION, ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST actor discusses his career in an interview conducted by Shocktillyoudrop.com’s Editor-in-Chief Chris Alexander.

Featurette: BLOOD OF THE ZOMBIES: Interview With FX Master Rosario Prestopino. The FX wizard behind the carnage in DEMONS, CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD and BURIAL GROUND sadly passed away in 2008. Fortunately for fans, Freak-O-Rama Productions shot this previously unseen interview with the man about his work on ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST in 2007.

Featurette: FILMMAKER ENZO G. CASTELLARI REMEMBERS HIS FATHER DIRECTOR MARINO GIROLAMI: It’s not a well known fact that ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST helmer “Frank Martin”, aka veteran director Marino Girolami, is the father of 70s/80s action maestro Enzo G. Castellari of INGLORIOUS BASTARDS, HIGH CRIME, BRONX WARRIORS and KEOMA fame. Castellari recently took the time to reminisce about his father via skype and supplied rare stills from his personal archive with which to illustrate the chat.

Featurette: SHERRY HOLOCAUST: Interview With Actress Sherryl Buchanan. The famed Italian genre publication Nocturno Magazine shot a rare on-camera interview with Ms. Buchanan recalling ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST and her days in Italian exploitation movies.

Featurette: NEUROSURGERY ITALIAN STYLE: Interview with FX Artist Maurizio Trani.

Featurette: New York Filming Locations Then Vs. Now. A look at the Big Apple locales as they are today.

Audio Bonus: Ian McCulloch Sings “Down By The River”. Back in 1964 McCulloch cut a folk music single early in his career. It’s included here visually enhanced by stills from his personal archive.

Trailers: The International and German Trailers for ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST.

Looks quality  ::).  I'm surprised they didn't track down O'Brien, seeing as he is "Doctor Butcher", for an interview. Mind you some websites say he died years ago, and someone on IMDB once said he's alive and living in France.  Still, I'll definitely be picking this up.

Is this the same 2k scan 88 did though? Have Severin just licensed it from 88?
