Giorgio Ardisson RIP (1931 - 2014)
« on: 28 Dec 2014 - 15:48 »

Just stumbled across this over on the Video Watchdog site (the blog)

http://www.videowatchdog.blogspot.it/2014/12/giorgio-ardisson-1931-2014.html

Italian page:

Always sad when someone passes - but I'll give old George credit for reaching 83 - he smoked like a trooper (actually, a platoon of troopers) lost a lung, and still couldn't pack them in. One wonders if he'd lived to 200 if he'd never started?

He also starred in one my favorite discoveries this year "Un Omicidio Per Appuntamento" (Date For a Murder) - It's one of those films that ripe for rediscovery - The cinematography is stunning, capturing Rome in the 60's with all it's post modern architecture (possibly Eur?) loads of references to places in Rome (although me and the wife aren't sure Via Mexico exists?!, the action is handled well (check out the rooftop chase scene) and Mr. Ardisson captures the role to a tee, part drunk washed up insurance detective, part sleuth. The supporting cast are all strong, and the production values high...

There's an Italian language/English fansubbed copy somewhere out there - It's definitely a good introduction to his films if you're not sure where to start.

It seems like it was George's year as well... aside from the Trevi panel appearance in Rome, there's an excellent interview with him (about 40 or 50 minutes) on one of the Italian Cinekult DVD's (possibly 'Something Creeping in the Dark'?) and author Matt Blake also published a book about him (to see George's very happy expression with that book in his hand was a great moment...)

Rest in Peace Giorgio Ardisson.
