Has anyone bought this? Completely flew under my radar, and in fact had never heard of it until I read the press release for Arrow's new Wake up and Kill BD. I liked Curti's book on Italian crime, but that price tag is kind of off-putting.

Yes I have it. Its a nice book. It would not be worth £35 but if you can get it for £25-ish its still expensive but OK. You are paying for the content and the authors effort rather than any production value, similar to the Italian crime one. It is basically a black and white encyclopedia. This one does not cover as many films (its a smaller book) as I think there is not so many gothic films as crime. I cannot say how comprehensive it is as I am relying on the book to improve my knowledge of the genre. It does include the gothic-flavoured giallos as well.  Worth getting if you enjoy these style of films.

I've got this as well, but have to confess that I've only given it a cursory glance. My first impression was favorable. It's available in the US from amazon for ~$33 right now which seems like a good deal, especially considering that McFarland books tend to be more expensive.

Thanks guys. That Amazon US price actually isn't too bad. Will probably buy it come payday. Like you, strangedays, I actually don't know too much about this genre. I've seen the classics of course, but a book like this feels like the perfect oppurtunity to learn more.
