Doomsday (Neil Marshall, 2007)
« on: 23 Aug 2007 - 11:47 »

Anyone excited about this:

Makes me happy to think we have excellent horror films being made in the UK and by the UK. Although i think the Descent was filmed partially in the states.

Yes please! I loved DOG SOLDIERS and THE DESCENT so I'll be all over this.

I think on the special features for DESCENT, they say it was shot totally in the UK subbing for the US.

I've not seen the special features on 'The Descent' DVD, 'cos I don't own it! Only saw it in the cinema. Was it really all shot in the UK? Wow! Had me fooled!

Looking forward to 'Doomsday' I've liked everything Neil Marshall has done so far.

I can look at it again, but I remember them saying they wanted to shoot in America but found locations similar in the UK. I was really curious since the license plate had NC on it (the current state I reside in now).

THE DESCENT was all shot in the U.K.  I believe the outdoor scenes were shot in Scotland or some of it was anyways.

But yeah, I am looking forward to DOOMSDAY.  I enjoy Marshalls other two films a lot and I hope this one will be a winner as well...

I think you're right. I remember at Dead By Dawn when we got a sneak preview of The Descent, I asked him if he had something against Scotland since Dog Soliders had werewolves, and The Decent had cave dwelling monsters.  ;D He replied that the film was set in America but filmed in the UK. I just thought he had filmed one or two "scenic" scenes across the pond. Also the cave scenes were filmed in a studio! For low budget - woh!

Doomsday opens here in the states today. I was hoping for a review from the Charlotte Observer newspaper`s critic - he`s pretty open minded about genre films, but no review and a note in the movie section that the film wasn`t screened for critics anywhere. That`s usually not a good sign, hope it`s wrong in this case. I loved Dog Soldiers and thought The Descent was decent so I`m planning to go Sunday or Monday.

Let us know what you think - it was due for release in the UK in May, but has been bumped off the schedule.

The review at Fango's website isn't very kind.

Never look at Fango's website personally as it's opinions seem to differ vastly from my own... Plus the links to their site always take so long to load I click away before they have loaded...

I've liked Neil Marshall's work so far, 'The Descent' being my favourite so far... Rhona Mitra stars in this one, she's a nice looking lady for sure...

I see. I've never had a problem with load times there. I was only posting that there review wasn't very good to the film. I don't agree with some of the opinions there either, but then that's all they are, just opinions. I do agree with one thing without having seen it yet. It does look like a pastiche of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, ROAD WARRIOR, MAD MAX, etc...and according to the review, there's whole scenes, dialog what have you lifted from those films. Either way, I still want to see it.
