GREEN STREET (or GREEN STREET HOOLIGANS to those in the states) is a great film about football hooligans.

Where THE FOOTBALL FACTORY was all about Chelsea Hooligans, this time it is about West Ham hooligans, but not the ICF as you would expect but the GSE (Green Street Elite), plenty of aggro and generous use of the word "Cunt" are all thrown in for good measure (did i mention that the director is a woman).

Don't be put off that Elijah Wood is in it as the dainty little Yank becomes quite tough by the end.

I thought GREEN STREET was an inane film. Elijah Wood is woefull miscast: granted, we're expected to buy the fact a Harvard [Yale, or whatever University he's thrown out of] student becoming a football hooligan, but when said character is embodied by Frodo from LOTR, all credability goes out of the window. I happen to think Wood is a good actor, but this was stunt casting of the higgest order and neither Wood/Baggins or the inept German woman calling the shots behind the camera could pull it off. And then there's the wooden plank that is Charlie Hunman and the fact thps whole sorry affair is actually worse than ID. I'll stop right there, because I've already wasted too much time talking abut this film... 

For the definitive look into the mindset of the football hooligan, watch Alan Clarke's THE FIRM. Nick Love's FOOTBALL FACTORY is good, but THE FIRM is, and always will be 'the daddy'.

Geoff Bell was the best thing in this film. I read a great interview with him at the time of the films release and he more or less laid the blame for the film being so bad solely at the feet of Charlie Hunnam, who refused to attend meetings with his vocal coach as he thought he didn't need one. He turned in the single worst accent in the history of film since Dick van Dyke as the chimney sweep in 'Mary Poppins'.

Geoff Bell's always great loved him in 'The Business' as well.
