L'Alpagueur (Philippe Labro, 1976)
« on: 06 Oct 2007 - 22:22 »

Just found out about this Belmondo film the other day and I am thinking of picking it up.  PEUR SUR LA VILLE is one of my favourite Euro-Cult films and I was wondering whether L'ALPAGUEUR is in the same class.  Has anyone here seen it?  The plot sounds like a winner but after being a little disappointed with LE PROFESSIONNEL I am hoping for a little guidance.

What a coincidence, I actually just ordered the French DVD the other day.. haven't received it yet, though.
It's available in several different covers, so if you're gonna buy it, make sure you get this one:

The silencer on that pistol looks huge! Like he's got a tin of beans on the end of the barrel.

Never seen this film, does the French DVD have any English options?

I had this - had no English options, so I got shot of it. It was an Earlier release but it mentioned having English dub on the packaging but it was nowhere to be found - if the disc you've order does have English options, please let me know!

This release is supposed to have English audio, if not I'll return it - that's for sure. I'll keep you posted.

The one I had was on the Canal+ label, had a black cardboard cover. Said it had English on the back but didn't. I'd be delighted to find out if this does have English...

Thanks for the response guys.  I was about to buy the cardboard sleeve version that Paul once had but after hearing about the lack of English track I think I'll see what happens with DVD FDSmedia has ordered.  I am certain that there is a release with an English track out there.

Are there any other Belmondo films that are comparable to PEUR SUR LA VILLE?

Here's the danish release;

As far as I remember, it's a bit letterboxed, but in french!
It's also a part of Coffret Jean-Paul Belmondo (15 DVD);

It states on the back of the cover that it's including an english dub, but this is NOT true!!!  :-[

NO, there are some good ones but nothing else i've seen has been good a PEUR SUR LA VILLE, there may be but i doubt it, out of the Belmondo's i have seen nothing else has touched it.

It is with tears in my eyes I report that also the newly released French DVD lacks an English language track, even though it's supposed to have one according to the back cover...  :-[

That really sucks FDS, I was looking forward to picking this one up.  I am sure that there is an English VHS release out there as a number of bootleg sites have this listed with an English audio track.  Is it not selectable via the remote rather than the menu?

it wasn't on the release i had in the thin cardboard box, don't know about this new release though.

I've now purchased 7 or 8 dvd's over the years that claimed to have an English option on them but didn't. :-[
