It's a case of very difficult materials - we'd have to really lash out money for it - more than any other release to date which is hard to justify. That said pressure and ineterst from fans always helps and depending on how the likes of curios like Oasis of Fear and Designated Victim maybe we will find a case for doing it.

Perfectly understandable, Almar. Shameless have built themselves up a reputation for releasing films in the best quality versions, so it's no surprise you're not going ahead with this one if it isn't up to scratch. Really looking forward to the upcoming Oasis Of Fear and The Designated Victim.

Did they get their hands on a better master or are they running with what they already had?

Apparently so. The blurb states that is from a HD master.

My copy of the Shameless DVD arrived from Amazon this morning, with an yellow macintosh included. Strangest DVD extra that I've ever had.

Shameless pulled this release over the weekend. They put out a press statement on their facebook page last night saying the new date would be sometime in Feb now. They never stated what the problem was though. It's not the disc, coz i got mine and played it last night, works fine. People are speculating it might be something to do with the free yellow rain mac that you get with it?

Just want to say it was a pleasure to work with Shameless on this one - the hatchet is well and truly buried... let's put it like that.

The schedule was incredibly tight but I was able to track down the director of photography via a mutual friend and, in the space of a week, we had the commentary subbed and in the can - it was never intended to be included. They were helpful, swift with payment (always a plus!) and generally pretty good about everything.

My wife and I also got to spend two days with Mario Bava's camera operator which was great - of all the people we've interviewed he's the only guy who halted proceedings to make us some pasta... twice!

With more time things could have been a lot better - but remember that the commentary really was a freebie at the end of the day - it was never planned.

But there's something more I'd like to add:

Shameless went out of their damned way to make sure that Italian track had subs that 'matched' the Italian track - and they made this effort for a minor Italian b-movie. Meanwhile 'RARO' the so called Criterion of Italian cult cinema have been dumping 'dubtitles' on their last 4 or 5 releases, hoping nobody will notice that what's being said on screen doesn't actually match the subtitles below screen.

That's a massive thumbs up for Shameless...

and a kick in the nads for RARO, who really should know better.

So what is actually wrong with the Shameless release? I watched it last night and apart from the transfer maybe been a bit dark it looks great in terms of details.

Mr. Shameless's wife is Italian, as is one of his key personnel, so I'd imagine he'd never have heard the last of it if he had allowed a sub-par job on the subs go  :-\
