Never seen this film, just got a nice straight from VHS DVD-R a few weeks ago and thought I'd give it watch soon.
Anyone seen it and care to comment, no spoilers though please!
Possibly the only film I know of that features Maurizio Merli without a moustache...

Great film, the best version that i know of is a Japanese tape which is widescreen (not sure if it's the right ratio though)
Merli is also tashless in "Seagulls fly low" :-\

I didn't know that! I've got a copy of 'Seagulls Fly Low', an incentive to dig it out and watch it I think!

Seems that in january Poliziotto Sprint will be on RAISAT channel after unless 20 years from the last time on italian tv
I absolutely love this movie 8), in italy there is only a bad fullscreen master on CVC VHS, I hope that I can see it in widescreen for the first time...

If it not widescreen seek out the Japanese vhs, it's the best print i've ever seen of the film.

Usually RAISAT channel has good and correct master and a better definition... I hope also this time
in the early 80's in Italy a large number of local tv-channel started to broadcast, there were no law or order for them, so they used to show pirate copies of movies without paying any royalty for them
in my district one of these local tv-channel had only a few movies that broadcasted in loop
and one of these movies was Poliziotto sprint, during a summer each afternoon you could see Poliziotto sprint and each afternoon I saw Poliziotto sprint, perhaps for 30 times :D
ok, I was child... but in my district everyone knows Marco Palma & Poliziotto sprint...

That Grindhouse set sounds kind of interesting. I've never even heard of the first set. Is it any good? Well, I'm guessing it's all VHS sourced but is it at least watchable? If it is, I just might pick it up.
-
The quality varies with each movie, but none of them is exactly "good." But the ones I looked at were mostly watchable, I guess you could say..
-
Ok, thanks. I'll probably give it a try if I can find it cheap then.
-
I've got VHS of most of these anyway and 9 times out of 10 they are better than these U.S. budget dvd's.
I'll wait till i hear full reports.

The Danish small box sell-thru tape of this doesn't look bad though it's fullscreen,it was the first and only version i ever saw of it.

The Japanese vhs is widescreen (about 1.85:1) and a nice print awell.

I enjoyed this a lot, although for the first half hour Maurizio Merli's character was such a whiny little bitch I wish he'd died in the car crash :-\
Watching Merli without his tache is like watching 70's porn without the hairy beavers. :-\

Strangely enough, I just saw HIGHWAY RACER for the first time last week, and I followed it with SEAGULLS FLY LOW, another moustache-less Merli performance. I enjoyed HIGHWAY RACER but I felt that Maurizio was miscast here as a headstrong cop whose enthusiasm for speed and driving in general often clouds his judgement when it comes to making decisions. If you overlook this, the movie is well worth a watch. Has anyone seen FEARLESS FUZZ? Merli plays the same somewhat 'lighter' character who actually cracks wise and -- wait for it -- smiles occasionally! He has some skill in this department, but is nowhere near as compelling as when he's playing his more obsessive rogue cop roles. He plays it somewhat lighter in HUNTED CITY, and though it's an okay movie, give me something like A SPECIAL COP IN ACTION any day.

I rented and watched this last night from vol. 2 specifically because I wanted to see this after being fooled by No Shame's "Convoy Busters" DVD. The movie is full screen and sourced from a Danish tape evidently dubbed over a home-recorded tape. When you start the movie, footage of rally cars for what is probably a commercial and a trailer for a Jodie Foster movie with Danish subtitles quickly cut in and out before the theme and generic title card appear. The movie is made even more grainy, since it has digital artifacts from being burned onto DVD. It's still watchable if you need to see it.
About the movie, some thoughts...
-The screenwriter must have had the famous "chickie run" car race scene from Rebel Without A Cause on the brain. I was expecting some guy to wave a pair of pantyhose to signal both drivers to start.
-One of the goons gets hit by a fishtailing car. Was that a dummy or did one of Rémy Julienne's guys take one for the team? That looked very realistic ???
-The director must have cheaped-out on the technical advisor: I guess poking around the piston valve with a household screwdriver "soups up" a car, making it go faster?
-What would be the problem in doing so, anyway? The Italian police have Lamborghini's! (http://www.wired.com/autopia/2008/10/mama-mia-italia/)

Sure does.
I've watched this sequence in slow motion a few times now and it does appear that stuntman took the full impact of the car.
