I just re-watched series 1 & 2 of The Tripods having never seen them since I they were first aired on the BBC when I was a small child, so I had little to no expectations other than a few hazy memories of Tripods and trees, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Good fun even if badly acted. However I was disappointed that it ended so open and on such a down beat note. I read that there was a supposed to be a third series but it never went into production. Does anyone have any more information on why this was?

Cost vs viewing figures, I guess. The series were adaptations of books, so if you want to know how it ended, pick them up.

Yeah, i was aware of the books but I just wondered if there were any other reasons why they didn't continue it or if it was just low viewing figures etc. I did find out that the reason why the love interest from the first series was replaced with another girl in the second was because the original girl died in a car crash in the interim between series.

Yeah, really good fun. I read that Disney own the rights and there has been talk of a movie for years.
