No doubt the quality is going to be hit and miss but I couldn't resist pre-ordering it.
A Collection of 25 Classic Spaghetti Westerns - all appearing for the first time on Blu-ray! Memorable films such as Kill Django, Lola Colt and Face to Face and featuring Richard Harrison, Robert Woods, Antonio Sabato, Klaus Kinski, Rory Calhoun, Guiliano Gemma and Lola Folana.

So this isn't going to be HD quality but rather they are using the higher storage capacity to stuff a load of films onto a single disc? I like that idea .
-
That's right a lot of the 'public domain' companies are now doing this. I imagine it releases their duplication costs considerably.
-
I'm intrigued, but I want to get a better feel for what's going to be included and how they're presented before making the purchase.
-
How many discs are in this set? If there is only one then it's a bit of a cheek to say "first time on Blu-Ray", insinuating that these will be of HD quality. They could be just a bunch of AVI files in a folder, burned onto Blu Ray disc!!
-
There's just one disc if the Amazon listing is accurate.
-
Here is a pic of the back of the box stating the titles in the collection.

Digitally remastered? HD resolution? 29 films on one disc? Fuck off! Even if they were mere HD upscales the compression artefacts would be atrocious. Sounds like they are trying to win a few purchases on the back of Tarantino's new film and no doubt some will blind buy thinking they are genuine HD transfers.

Under no such illusion myself, the way I see it even if some of the more obscure titles are at least watchable it's worth it.
-
If this is going to be one50GB dual layer Blu-ray then the size of each film is going to be less than 2GB each, which means that these will not even be of standard DVD quality.

Keep in mind that AVC compression is much better than MPEG-2 one. I have just watched a movie as mkv file with size 0.5GB which looks better than any DVD.

could be the bargain of the decade, err how much is it ?

$12.99 pre-order price, link in first post :D

oh yeah not very observant of me, what a great find all the same.
-
You can get it even cheaper from dvdempire: http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?item_id=1626323&site_id=69 (http://www.dvdempire.com/Exec/v4_item.asp?item_id=1626323&site_id=69).
But what is the film Train for Django? IMDb doesn't know it and Wikipedia don't list it as one of Django-movies. Could it be Train for Durango aka Un treno per Durango? Durango means name of the place, not character.
-
I've not used them before, are they customs friendly?
Spotted something else I'd like there too but it goes above the £15 limit.
-
Thanks for the info, Tanzi! And yeah, my guess is that Train for Django is probably Train for Durango. Pre-ordered! :)

I've browsed their titles couple of times but always managed to find the same titles cheaper elsewhere. But maybe this time we'll see.

Well, I only ordered this, didn't order anything else in case of customs.

Thanks for letting us know

Hasn't got particularly good reviews at amazon.com - complaints of picture quality and that two of the films have no English language options. Is it worth the punt for the price? I'm not the biggest Spaghetti Western fan (I probably only own about five of them) but might pick it up if the general consensus is that it's decent enough.

Rich, I paid £7 for it. I'll be surprised if I ever get round to watching a quarter of them. Could spend your money worse I suppose

That's what I was thinking. Quality is probably still better than some of the ropey old shit I watch.

Arrived yesterday and having had a quick look through some of them id say the quality is fine and its only 7 quid on amazon uk.
