I used to have the Shriek Show disc and sold it off. Wasn't a favorite of mine then but I couldn't pass up on picking up a cheap copy of the old United Home Video clamshell release for its artwork:

Sure it's cut and print quality is pretty cruddy but I actually found it entertaining this time around (that may be due to the twenty or so minutes removed by US distributor Larry Woolner who was also responsible for the US edit of RETURN OF THE ZOMBIS under the title THE HANGING WOMAN/BEYOND THE LIVING DEAD).

It is too bad that the film takes so many different turns in the remaining 2/3rds of the movie because the first bit plays like a sort of grindhousey more explicit less subtle BLOOD AND ROSES. Statuesque Annik Borel looks great in these early scenes both as Daniella and her ancestress (seen through a star filter) and in her scenes with Howard Ross. In the hospital scenes and the revenge scenes, she looks convincingly palid and even feral. The wolf woman of the title is pretty funny to look at but does manage to be nightmarishly creepy peering out through the brush (when she's tied to the stake, her writhing looks less wild and agonized and more like she's trying to be a go-go dancer).

Watched this again for the first time in years and I still like it a lot. As Eric mentioned the pacing is a bit uneven after Borel escapes from the psychiatric ward, but IMHO the overall sleaziness of the proceedings makes up quite well for it. Also, the talky parts with Frederick Stafford and Elio Zamuto offer a few nuggets of unintentional comedy in the dubbed version I watched. Great score by Lallo Gori - is this out on cd somewhere?

What a tour-de-force job by Annik/Annick/Anne Borel as the tormented Daniella. Does anybody know what became of her? She really had a memorable face but apparently disappeared after her last movie in 1978. The only other film with her I have seen is Ted V. Mikels's snoozefest BLOOD ORGY OF THE SHE DEVILS. Although it precedes LA LUPA by a few years, Annik's small but intense part has a few similarities to the role of Daniella. She plays a woman who re-lives the death of her former self through the wonders of age regression. As it turns out she once was a werewolf witch that got killed by a village mob:

She also has a very brief role in Truck Turner as a scissor weilding (if I remember correctly) - smacked out crack hoe.

I used to have a pre-cert for this 'back in the day'. When it arrived it looked like someone had spunked on the sleeve. It made me feel ill.
