The real mystery about this mystery film ends up being how many cuts (versions) it had since the director's cut, somewhere end 1977, and it's Italian premiere in 1979.
Post-production problems may explain those two year gap, like finding more funding to pay the lab, or a long lobbying (and cutting) negotiation with the censors, or the distributors, to avhieve a more politically-correct version.
ANICA, the Italian Association that keeps a dependable database on all films produced and co-produced in Italy, gives us these bare facts:
«Censorship visa of 1979-10-19 for 2500 meters running time (that's 91 minutes, using the online converter from Kodak)
Premiere – 1979-10-29
Production company: Tanit Cinematografica»
I'm appalled to know that a Danish DVD is out announcing a running time of 106 minutes when it is actually 84. Others have explained well the difference to the 87 min version (Belgium Flemish), with the suppression of a crucial scene and possibly something similar happened to the other 4 min missing to the 91 min of the premiere.
