So, what cool European film magazines out there are worth hunting down and collecting? I thought I'd list a couple of informative and cool mags that I know about.

Starting with some Italian magazine called COLLANA MOVIE SPECIAL. In January 1973 they did published a cool issue devoted to decamerotica films from that time. I love these sexy medieval tales but they are poorly represented on DVD and rarely discussed. This issue covers sexy scenes from five decameroticas that were made in 1972:

Now, I have one important question: does anyone know what film STORIE D'AMORE DEL '300 is!? I can't find a film by that name anywhere! According to the magazine it is directed by Pietro Regnoli and the cast is Orchidea De Santis, Malisa Longo, Franco Agostini and Tony Kendall. I believe John Richardson is probably in the cast too as there is a guy in some of the photos that looks to be him. Id' really appreciate any help in identifying this film and can scan more photos from it if that helps.

I'll post some of my other favorite Euro movie mags later. Now, what are your favorite mags?

Can´t help you much, mate. I'm intrigued as well. I did a quick research myself on the internet but I couldn´t find any decameroti directed by Piero Regnoli that fits that description. The closest I could find was "Giochi proibiti dell'Aretino Pietro" http://www.cinemedioevo.net/Film/cind_giochi_proibiti_aretino.htm but neither Marisa Longo nor Richardson are listed in the cast! 

Of course, there´s Canterbury n. 2 (Nuove storie d'amore del '300)http://www.cinemedioevo.net/Film/cind_canterbury_numero_2_nuove_storie.htm , (directed by Joe D'Amato under one of his several pseudonyms), which you obviously must have come across in your research.
What makes it even odder is that the literal translation of the title means "New  love stories of  the' 300", indicating it should be a sequel - weird, isn´t it?

Thanks, Rogerio. Yeah, you have a point about GIOCHI PROIBITI... a.k.a. TALES OF EROTICA. It is indeed directed by Regnoli and does star Orchidea De Santis, Tony Kendall and Franco Agostini, so it sounds likely that it could be this film. However, the fact that Malisa Longo and John Richardson don't appear in it is what gives me doubts. I guess it's possible they were in a segment that was cut but this seems a bit strange. Or maybe STORIE D'AMORE was never released? I'll have to get to the bottom of this! I'll try and scan some more pics from the magazine later.

As for CANTERBURY N. 2 (NUOVE STORIE D'AMORE DEL '300) a.k.a. TALES OF CANTERBURY: I actually have that film. It's an interesting; one of the most unusual of the decameroticas because it is much more crude with lots of swearing and even some graphic violence (a young love-making couple is impaled by a sword in a sequence borrowed from A BAY OF BLOOD). It also has a fantastic score by the De Angelis brothers. The director is John Shadow, who most sources list as a pseudonym for Joe D'Amato, but Shadow was actually a real person from England. Shadow also wrote PIECES and directed MICROSCOPIC LIQUID SUBWAY TO OBLIVION with Ewa Aulin, who he was married to at the time. Pretty interesting character.

That´s my guess too, but I certainly hope it´s not the case. Maybe Kier La-Janisse might have some clue about it?

In fact, it´s just amazing how these rumours spread - I guess it's the same situation in which Roberto Loyola is often mistakenly given credit for directing MICROSCOPIC LIQUID SUBWAY TO OBLIVION, right?

That's right. MICROSCOPIC was directed by John Shadow, not Roberto Loyola. I'm not even sure how the rumor started but it no doubt had something to do with the fact that John Shadow does sound very much like one of those silly anglisized pseudonyms that often pops up in Italian films.

The introduction still contains the error about Shadow being a pseudonym for both D'Amato and Loyola, even though Pomeroy himself clearly states that he knew the director as John Shadow and refers to him as John throughout the interview.

Oh my God!!! Rogerio and Jonny are right! That possibility never even dawned on me! I'm so used to Merli's moustache that the thought of him ever having shaved it off never even crossed my mind. Not once! Lol! But I think you're right. It does look like him, and now that I think about it, John Richardson was much more thin-haired.

So STORIE D'AMORE DEL '300 was probably re-titled MILLE E UNA NOTTA ALL'ITALIANA then. I guess the listing of Regnoli as director and Tony Kendall and Franco Agostini as cast members could be errors due to many of these films featuring a lot of the same actors. Not sure but I'll keep looking into this...

Anyone heard of an Italian 70s magazine called New Cinema? I've got an issue from 1972 and it's pretty cool stuff. It covers lots of movies from that time and has plot summaries and great photos in both color and black and white for all the films covered.
