I liked it a lot as well, and the great score really carries the film along nicely.. might have been because I was so disappointed with Dorian Gray and I watched this right after.

The Night Child aka The Cursed Medallion (Arrow Video DVD)

YOU’LL NEED MORE THAN AN EXORCIST TO SAVE THE NIGHT CHILD

When a documentarian delves into the dark world of satanic art for a new film, he unearths a disturbing painting that leads him into a world of post-Exorcist Italo-Horror where cursed medallions, possessed children and the overwhelming power of the dark lord converge to create a visually stunning and wildly eccentric exploitation classic from Massimo Dallamano (Venus in Furs, What Have You Done With Solange?)

With Italian cult cinema child star Nicoletta Elmi (Who Saw Her Die?, A Bay of Blood) as the motherless, demon-demented daughter and Zombie Flesh Eaters’ Richard Johnson as the filmmaker searching for the evil truth, The Night Child is a perfect example of expertly shot, beautifully crafted B-cinema.

See a young girl descend into the hellish pit of demonic possession in The Night Child, a textbook example of 70s euro-horror from an Italian exploitation master.

Curious to hear how they end up trying to sync the English track with this - unless they're just using the US version?

I will probably be some sort of hybrid version they'll tout as a new and exciting cut of the film or the like.  :-\

Curious here too. A hybrid cut would be very strange as the film would be switching from the English dub to Italian with subs at various points throughout.

I've never seen the Code Red version, is the story the same in that edit? What I'm saying is would the English dub track match up 'continuity wise' with the Italian version? If it doesn't that means some poetic license will have to be made in the creation of the new subtitles which doesn't sit well with me unless the director gives his blessing.

Which in this case would be difficult.

Me neither, only the Italian version with subs.

I'm sure Bruno would have seen (or at least got) the Code Red version  ;D

Of course I have the CR dvd (also own the Italian dvd btw).  :D

There are differences but it's been a while so I had to go look for some info...

"...English language version differs significantly from the original Italian version, Il medaglione insanguinato, in numerous respects. The US print contains a different, much tackier opening titles sequence; Elmi's opening nightmare/flashback is cut and restructured considerably with musical alterations and a superimposition of her sleeping face added throughout; some of Johnson's dialogue with an occult expert played by Lila Kedrova is trimmed down; two entire scenes (totalling around three minutes) are cut following the mallet murder in which Johnson is interrogated by the police and then compares his story with Cassidy's; and the final voiceover from Elmi questioning the necessity of evil is dropped from the soundtrack. On the other hand, the English version also adds some footage not in the Italian cut, as Johnson's Diabolical Arts program is shown in much more detail and an additional scene is included with Elmi exploring the new villa upon her arrival in Italy." (Mondo Digital)

"The English, Italian, and French versions all have different titles sequences. The US version's tackiness is the comic-book-looking font used for the credits which unfold over the fresco that figures into the film. The Italian version's titles unfold as the camera slowly zooms back from the medallion. The French version is the tackiest. Its titles unfold over details of the Luca Signorelli painting that Richard Johnson is later seen looking at on his slide projector." (ECC)
