I've heard so many good things about the Big Gundown, I need to grab a copy....Exploited are selling the Franco Cleef Restoration, which I've read much praise about....Does anyone have this DVD-R ? Any thoughts would be appreciated !

Thanks,
Wes

There is a legit release coming in April (I think) from Koch Media Germany, with original Italian audio and English subs with the full length version of the film. It is the single disc from the rather expensive Sergio Sollima set and apparently some problems with the audio (wouldn't work properly on some players) have been corrected.

Image comparisons of the Koch DVD can be found at:

I have the Franco Cleef disc. It's fine but there's a couple of spots where the audio drops out for some reason. You may be better off waiting for the legit release.

My disc isn't perfect but judging from those screen caps, the Koch disc is going to be the way to go. The film really does look of sparkling quality there.

Thanks for the feedback guys, really appreciate it cos I was gonna go with the DVD-R, but thought I'd run it by the Board first....I'll wait for the Koch disc and see how it compares...BTW, where do You get yr Koch discs from ? Is there an English-friendly website that reviews their discs ?

Thanks,
Wes

I usually get my Koch DVDs from Kult Video, though there's no English reviews on their site. Good prices on there though.

Lee Van Cleef's one of the only actors where I need to hear his real voice to enjoy the movie

I'm sure xploitedcinema will carry this title and he also carries the Franco Cleef disc which I'm sure the Kult disc will be a few bucks more but with pic quality like that, an upgrade is warranted.

I usually find Amazon.de best for Koch titles, which they do generally stock, unlike a lot of other German cult releases such as NEW or X-rated.

I'll be picking this one up pretty quickly when it is released, but I'd imagine that one of the SW or German DVD forums will have an update on the picture quality etc. I'll post here if I find anything.

For reviews of the other Koch DVDs, I do know of one website that has reviews of quite a lot of them:

The Django Box
The Halleluja Box

Blindman
Death Sentence
I Giorni della Violenza
Johnny Hamlet
Massacre at Grand Canyon
Spara Gringo Spara

Yeah, its a great site - I wish more websites would adopt the what-you-need-to-know section that follows the review - its a great idea ! I'm gonna get 3 Koch Westerns after reading Tim's Spaghetti Western setion, so a big thanks !

I've got a longer version from Germany in a boxset that has Italian language with English subs and a Japanese dvd that has English language but unfortunately is the shorter cut of the film

...the Japanese disc is what I have. I think I've got a DVD-R of the Van Cleef reconstruction though.
