It's been bugging me for a while - I just want to add (rather obviously) that I do not have any proof or knowledge of MYA being a disreputable company. Whilst I have an opinion on the matter, I don't want to say eitherway - it's just speculation.

If they do have the rights then good luck to them and we should support them (even if they did cock up the release of four flies ;) )

Mya seemed to have sourced their FOUR FLIES release from pristine or neg source material, which they must have obtained from somewhere semi-legit.  I wonder whether they've just decided to deal directly with licensors/materials-holders from Italy - and maybe pay them directly for the privilege - and blithely skim over the issue of US ownership.  For all I know Argento's company is getting a cut from both the FOUR FLIES and DOOR INTO DARKNESS releases, with both parties giving it a shot as long as no-one directly gets steamed.  The FOUR FLIES disc wasn't exactly an under-the-radar release and if Paramount were incensed about having their baby stolen from under them, they've had ample time to do something about it.

Regarding HORRIBLE, upon reflection I suspect I could care less if it's properly licensed from official source channels via MGM.  If they release it from original source materials and do a good transfer, that's good enough for me.

Maybe Mya is bribing staff members at Paramount and MGM with whiskey and fine Italian hookers to keep quiet.

That's pretty much the way that I feel about it too.

It's Paramount and MGM's fault for not catering to fans of their more obscure titles!

It's odd how the Dania Films logo is missing from the er... 'dodgier' titles in their catalogue? Maybe Luciano Martino is covering his ass?

All of their other releases seem to carry the logo, just not Door into Darkness, Four Flies... and now Absurd. Hmmm...

Those three aren't owned by Dania Films.

That'd be why!  ???

Was starting to think they had a hand in Mya, seeing as they've pretty much released so many of their films.

I rented this one.  Pretty unimpressive actually... the disc and the film.  No extras, just Play / Resume / Language Selections (on the main page) / Scene Selections.  The menus look like they were designed using some sort of template authoring program.  It's nice that they included scenes missing from the better quality master but the inserts look more like a TV recording than a videotape (or perhaps a multigenerational dub of a tape).  Audio is okay.  The conversion to NTSC for the better quality scenes looks good enough but the conversion of the inserts is messy.

I used to have the Wizard Video MONSTER HUNTER tape but it got eaten by a VCR.  I remember the gore scenes but that's pretty much the only reason to watch it.  The dialogue scenes are awful to slag through (especially the ones between the parents).  The children are annoying (especially the little boy - the brother and sister were played by William Berger's children) and Purdom isn't a particularly compelling protagonist.  While modeled after HALLOWEEN, there isn't much of a setup for this so-called small town.  The house is anything but American (dig all of those suits of armor, the Europhon turntable, and all of the pasta being consumed).  Too bad, D'Amato didn't just set it in Italy and try to combine the gothic horror aspect with the slasher genre (Annie Belle's trek through the moonlit woods is reasonably suspenseful).

I don't blame MGM for not putting this out (it doesn't really fit in with their other horror releases - even in the company of SCARECROWS and THE BURNING) but they really should think about making some money off of these sort of titles by sub-licensing rather than having them just sitting around (especially if they have elements for them and can get an interested DVD company to pony up for the transfer costs - then they'd have masters for sales to DVD companies in other territories as well as TV and other venues).

I am sorry to say that as much I feel I should support Mya's releases I downloaded this. I already have two nice looking uncut VHS tapes but I was actually looking forward to this. If Mya had made the effort which the artwork (which I think is piss poor) and presentation and actually included subtitles for the Italian track then it would have been a triple dip for sure - but as ECC mentioned the whole thing is a little too sloppily put together to warrant me shelling out for it for the third time. If I was still getting paid a UK wage, then I'd probably still pick it up but I'm not paying out for a sub-par disc with my poxy Eastern European pay packet!  :-[

Pubes I have plenty of, so if there is an online retailer who takes them, I'd be happy to post along a generous mound in exchange for a lacklustre Absurd disc!. Maybe ZDD accepts them?

I've heard they accept any bodily fluids in payment. And plenty of them. Would you like his address?

Yes please Kevin, that would be great mate. Good news about them accepting body fluids as there's a field just across the road from me where I spotted heaps of steaming horse shit. I reckon I would be able to get about 20 of their high quality stolen fan subbed discs with that lot. Cheers for the heads up!
