I read a while ago that the uncut version was coming to DVD - does anybody have any news?

I wish I did, as this is one movie I'd like to see wrenched from the public domain so that we can finally see a decent, uncut release. Maybe even remastered?

Was it the special edition from German Anolis which was announced at the DVD Maniacs forum? Apparently the people behind the label asked the moderators to remove the thread because production was in such an early stage.

I have read a few rumours about it, dating back a long time, but no positive news of yet.

I really hope to see it soon, the US print (which I watched through a fog of print damage) makes for a very interesting film, highly reminiscent of a later era Hammer production.

I'd like to see an uncut print of this one too but haven't seen it mentioned anywhere that one is due soon.

Anyone spot the gaffe in this film involving one of the crew members? I noticed that it hadn't been picked up by IMBd so I posted the following:

Think I've got a copy somewhere at home and I'll try and post a pic if I remember....

Just received a nice looking widescreen print, recorded from a German language satellite channel. I must confess to not having seen this one for a good few years and that was via a fullscreen print.

Anyone fancy trying to add an English track to this German version - which runs for 89 minutes according to my DVD player.

I've always liked this poster, the subtle hint that the monster has a massive cock is quality...

The US English language version is missing several scenes so it would not be a good source (even with subtitles to fill those gaps).  A longer English cut (from Swedish VHS, I think) was making the grey market rounds some time ago (the differences between the US and export versions are detailed in a VW back issue).  That would be the source to track down for a fandub.

Marc has a few versions, including the Swedish VHS...

Lady Frankenstein Mel Welles  1972 IT Embassy (USA) 83m44s
Lady Frankenstein Mel Welles  1972 IT Madacy (CAN) 83m33s
Lady Frankenstein Mel Welles  1972 IT Esselte (SWE) 94m04s
Lady Frankenstein (Spanish) Mel Welles 1972 IT Jade (SP)

The 83m cut is the most widely available and I think the Swedish tape is the only representation of that longer version.  Its amazing that the shorter version runs over eighty minutes since a lot of New World titles were cut to around 75 minutes for double billing (J. L. Merino's SCREAM OF THE DEMON LOVER lost about twenty minutes when New World put it out as a double bill with THE VELVET VAMPIRE).

If the Swedish version does indeed run 5 minutes longer, I'll have to check the German version against that article.

EDIT:

The article actually describes a 94m 40s composite of the Swedish tape and the Embassy US tape which apparently features some footage not in the Swedish release.  If that footage is dialogue-related then the US version is readily available for patching.

In case you didn't know the 3sat broadcast mentioned in this thread was accompanied by a 40 minutes documentary on the making of Lady Frankenstein. It featured Mel Welles, Herbert Fux and Rosalba Neri in onscreen interviews: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1086231/

It was nice to see Rosalba even if she didn't remember that much about the shoot (at least it was not some fake documentary à la "Rosalba Neri: The Italian Sphinx"). Fux had a blast watching the film for the first time in years and offered some funny anecdotes. I assume this documentary will pop up as a featurette on a future dvd release, maybe in an even longer form.

I've only ever seen the ( crappy quality ) 84m version of this, but would love to see the full edit ( a Shameless Fan Edition, maybe? ).
What's the additional footage on the 94m version?

  • Soon to be a Major Motion Picture

I think Joseph Cotten gives the best "It's alive" delivery in Frankencinema history, saying it with complete cool (and exactly opposite from Colin Clive's screaming [which has its place too]).

Sadly this film is with a certain Italian rights owner that always wants far too much for their titles.

As far I can tell it's a dvd of Cunha's Frankenstein's Daughter using Lady Frankenstein artwork...
Sinisterfilm's site confirms this.
Or did someone make a serious mistake?
