Aenigma / Ænigma (Lucio Fulci, 1987)

I haven't watched a Fulci movie in a while, and pulled this one off of my 'on deck' pile since I was finally in the mood for some horror.  This one was way better than the reviews I've read, and actually had some really great, creepy moments (as well as unintentional humor throughout the film due to the low budget and hilarious dubbing/dialogue).  Lara Naszinsky is ultra hot (and the main reason to watch) as the possessed student, especially in a dream sequence / sex scene near the end of the film (when I get the ability to do screen grabs, i'll update this post with a few !).

I haven't watched this since Colourbox released it in the UK back in the '80s. Thought it was ok, not as bad as some thought but nothing special. Keep meaning to pick it up on DVD but never get round to it.

Wasn't it on vpd/american imperial?

Funny thing was the film was uncut but the cover was censored!

Much respect to whoever thought of the snail scene :-*

The film was released for the first time in the US on DVD by Image Entertainment as part of their Euroshock collection but it wasn't a very good transfer (very gauzy but then again it was a late eighties Italian film).  It had Italian credits but only the English track.

I liked the part in the museum with the artwork coming to life until the bit with the statue which was ridiculously unconvincing.

I thought that part was great, and hilariously awesome!

If it played right away then you probably clicked in your browser to open it instead of save it.  It might still be in your temporary files folder.  If you're using Firefox, make sure you click on the "save to" button instead of the "open with" one.

Watched this film last week (French release). I laughed throughout the film, great 80's nonsense!

Hi everyone....

If you don't mind I'll sneak into this thread with my first post....

I haven't actually seen Aenigma, but its great to see some positive words for some late-in-the-day Fulci. I am a self-confessed Conquest fan myself, and one of these days I'll check out my still wrapped copy of Manhatten Baby which I'm hoping will be good - I think the film has some degree of respectablity in the Fulci cannon...

Hi Wes. Manhattan Baby is no classic but it's certainly enjoyable - thanks to an air of menace throughout. Well worth a watch!

It's also one of Fulci's best-shot films (well, his best shot non-Sergio Salvati film) with some excellent scope compositions.  Frizzi contributed a couple of great new tracks but only two of the four were used, the rest were recycled from CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD and THE BEYOND.
