Avoid the Raro disc, they have used the old Redemption/Salvation non-anamorphic master - they didn't even bother to remove the Salvation intro!!  :-[

This was the one title I didn't sit in on and supervise the transfer of. I think it's too bright and there are day for night shots that should be dark in it.

That's a bit of a shame, the sound on the Image disc(both Italian and English) was very crackly/hissy in places and was hoping the Raro disc might have fixed it.

Yes, nothing seems to have been done about the audio.

Does anyone have the Dutch release on Sodemented Cinema? Maybe it's an alternative...

I doubt it - Redemption own World rights on this title.

According to the specs at Xploited Cinema, the Dutch disc is non-anamorphic widescreen with English audio.  I think its the same transfer.  Sodemented's website lists 16:9 for its titles but that does not seem to be the case.

I actually ended up with the Redemption print of this via one of those "four movie" budget sets that used to over-populate Best Buy.  It's on the "Blood Bath" 2 disc set along with Pieces, Bava's Kill Baby Kill, and Baba Yaga with it's alternate title Kiss Me Kill Me.  You know, in retrospect, with how cheap these disc sets were, these had to have introduced a ton of people to European Genre Cinema!

the RARO disc has been in my wishlist for a long time, but it seems I'll have to keep waiting for a better version...

The Darkside DVD is anamorphic.

A few months back I made a comparison of the UK-redemption release and the Dutch release.

http://www.cultfilmsenkutfilms.com/compare/devils_nightmare.html

The UK disc looks better - the Dutch disc has problems with mosquito noise (look at the two last screenshots) but seems to be based on the same source. Both share the problems with the missing day-for-night filters.

One Italian rights holder claims to have The Devil's Nightmare with both Italian and English audio.

The Darkside DVD is anamorphic.

I've never seen this disc but Marc Morris' website mentions that the anamorphic Jean Rollin discs that the Dark Side put out (before the Encore releases) were created from 4:3 telecines by putting them through an Aspect Ratio Converter (I don't know how much better that can be than what some of us can do with Avisynth or the cropping and resizing features in VirtualDub or a fully loaded editor and authoring program).
