In The Eye Of The Hurricane / El ojo del huracán (José María Forqué, 1971)

Really good film from Forqué, obviously indebted to the sunny coastal set Gialli of Umberto Lenzi and as good as the best of those. The similarities don't end with the locations either as Jean Sorel stars as Paul the new found lover of Ruth (Analía Gadé) a married woman who has just decided to divorce her husband Michel (Tony Kendall). After a couple of accidents, no brakes on the car and no air in her scuba tanks, Ruth wonders if someone is either out to kill her or Paul. Obviously with these kind of films it's never as simple as that...

Only version I have is from a VHS on the Standard label from the Netherlands, English language and in what seems to be the correct ratio. Be nice to see what a re mastering does to the viewing pleasure with this one as it features some great camera work, there's a really cool scene where Sorel hangs upside down from a tree as Gadé stands below him and they both kiss with the camera rotating as it's fixed on them. Also some great animated opening titles and a typically 70's style nightclub all put to great use.

I like this one a lot too! As you said, it is pretty much in the same vein as Lenzi/Fulci´s late 60s gialli, except that argentinian actress Analía Gadé is playing the role usually given to Carrol Baker. Piccioni's soundtrack is absolutely amazing, imo. I also have a nice looking Italian publicity guide I've recently bought on ebay.  Too bad I don't have a scanner or a camera right now!  ???
The version I have has italian audio and good image quality, not sure where it's sourced from, though - propbably a TV rip.

Great screengrabs Rogerio, nice sharp image on that Italian version. Nice to see that the English version keeps the same title card as the Italian one.

Totally agree about Piccioni's score, lovely funky bass lead motif going through the whole film. Is this on CD?

Really enjoyed this one as well, i'll post some cineromanzo pics soon. Rosanna Yanni has a nice role in this too, as a colette-descombes-in-orgasmo type character. Always love Yanni, i think cross current was her only other giallo appearance.

Very nice film with some clever twists and one truly heart-stopping suspense sequence. I'd love for it to get a DVD release.

A believe there's also a Danish VHS release but it's very rare.

Yeah, there’s supposedly a greek tape as well. They are both on Michael "gialloboy"'s want list - just to give you an idea of how incredibly rare they are!   :-*

The copy I have has some painfully overexposed highlights but the rest of the colors are nice.

The animated opening credits make me wonder about the cut credit sequence for Forque's film TAROT (the US DVD only includes the director's credit - the opening credits are otherwise missing except for a brief image of animated tarot cards).

Great theme song, too.  It kind of reminds me of the main theme for LISA AND THE DEVIL (although that's based on Rodrigo's "Concerto d'Aranjuez" [sp?]).
