I'm starting to think that being a cult film collector just isn't what it used to be... Seems like nowadays you need a fairly large wallet to grab the new releases.
The market is almost identical to the 'silver' bootleg market - releases limited to 1000 and they sell out straight away - usually sold at high prices. Stock might sit with retail outlets (online) for a while - but they sell out at the source very quickly. I can't believe some of the prices for the FilmArt titles, for example.
I don't collect either - but it's strange how the market has changed over the last ten years. It's still strong and we're seeing a lot of new releases, but instead of pressing up 5000 copies, now it's about 1000 and the price tag is much higher - the amount of money going around is the same, but less copies in circulation. So, a much faster turn-over for the DVD company, and less risk, but less people get the chance to buy them.
Am I right?
