Das Singende, klingende Bäumchen

Recently bought the DVD of this surreal childrens film, looking forward to it arriving as I haven't seen it since the school summer holidays in the mid 70's when it was shown everyday in episode form.

I found an online program about it on the Radio 4 website which I'm going to have a listen to later...

"How a 1960s BBC TV series, bought from East Germany and complete with a Communist princess and the world's weirdest fish, ended up terrifying and obsessing a generation of British children..."

This is really good fun. Very surreal looking, and very different ideals (it's east German) about what's important in life.

I have a US 'Tales from Europe' release. Let me know if yours has a dub track, subtitles or a voice-over like mine.

Finally received my DVD, it's the R2 DVD from Network. Language options are English or original German with English subtitles. Music only track and an interview with the woman who played the Princess.

Going to watch it later today with this kids...

Watched it with my two daughters this afternoon... They weren't that impressed, they liked it don't get me wrong, the fairytale aspects kept them interested, I kept getting looks from them though... The kind of looks that say "Dad, where the hell did you find this weird shit?"...

Hahaha....I can imagine!  When I got the tales from Europe dvd I was gaggin to see this again, as I had very vivid memories of it from watching it as a kid...but I did'nt realise it was so short??? And how awkward does the Prince look on that horse...not an outdoors Monarch!
I know there are a few other releases..'Tinderbox' being one, which I have'nt seen...and I think there are a few others. Has anyone seen them?

Kids grow up quicker nowadays and stuff that entertained us they may find boring.
Tey might have preffered to watch "Guns of the big shots"!!! (but only your new version!) :-\

I'd love to see some more, no idea if they're out on DVD though. You heard anything?

Shit! I only bought the single disc version of 'Singing, Ringing' didn't realise there was a 2 discer!  ???

Doesn't look like 'The Tinderbox' is available separately either.

Is that the one that had an animated credit sequence with a stereotypical European and a little fox? I'm sure he sung something like "I'm a storyteller, and my stories must be told..."

It certainly was, he looked like the pied piper of fucking Hamlyn.

There was this kid at school who was full of shit, whatever you did he had done better.

i.e. "i fell of a 20ft wall and was unhurt", "well, i fell of a 60ft wall and only grazed my knee".
words to that effect.

we used to sing the theme tune to him and would also ask him if he was going to watch "Jackanory" after school.

HAHAHAHA....There is this fella I work with, every girl he meets wants him to give them the high hard one, and his balls are always bigger than everybody elses'...we sing the theme tune to him almost every Monday when he starts to tell us his weekend tales of interest!
