Coming on October 27:

La nuit de la mort (Night of Death, Raphaël Delpard 1980)

Is it any good?

Hi,

I haven't seen it, but I wouldn't expect anything good from Raphaël Delpard (Les Bidasses aux Grandes Manoeuvres is shockingly stupid. One of the worse comedy I ever saw).

I found 3 french reviews:

http://www.nanarland.com/Chroniques/Main.php?id_film=nuitdelamort
http://www.horreur.com/fiche_film.php?idfilm=784
http://cinemafantastique.be/film1836,Nuit-de-la-mort-La.html

To summarize these reviews:

positive: oppressive cold atmosphere, interesting story, relatively well done gore scenes by Ronaldo Abreu (who worked the next year on Zulawski's Possession).

negative: boring, cheap TV look, cheap sets, awful acting, predictable, no suspense at all, repetitive annoying "psycho" soundtrack.

A few pictures:

I haven't seen it but reportedly moans could be heard on the soundtrack because the same location was being simultaneously rented to an adult film.

Unfortunately no Aarron. When I bought my TV this year it came with an awesome home cinema worth 500€ for free (so I couldn't turn that down lol!). Now, I realise it is hard to hack Bluray players to play other zones, fair enough, but sadly I can't even hack it for DVDs! When I watch Region 1 disks, either I do that on my PC, or stream to the TV (which works sometimes without losing sync between video and audio).

I plan to grab a cheapo player (similar to the one available on ebuyer) someday, just to watch Region A disks that never make it to Europe.
