I didn't know there was errors with timing and colour on the Demons discs!
To be fair it's hardly a surprise is it.

So glad I boycotted Arrow releases.

I'm not defending Arrow, they have made some pretty big mistakes over the years. But, I've never heard of there been any problems with colour timing or the colours full stop on the Demons release. Both films look absoluetly fine to me on DVD. It's not very professional of Synapse to issue statements saying - 'we’re fixing the timing and color errors that were in the previous Blu-rays of the DEMONS films'. If there were errors I'd of expected it to have become common knowledge by now.

I expect that now Don May Jnr has said it publicly (via Fangoria, not sure if he's said anything anywhere else on the subject before) he's going to be expected to explain himself if no one knows what he's referring to.

Especially seeing as Calum Waddell did some of the extras for Synapse.....oops !

Having now watched it, the Arrow Tenebrae is pretty horrific so I'm even more looking forward to the Synapse release.

I'm still using my old Anchor Bay UK DVD of Tenebrae, the Arrow edition didn't look like too much of an improvement to me. Do Synapse region lock their blu discs?

I never upgraded from my old ABUS non-anamorphic DVD. In terms of that, it's an improvement. Synapse are on and off with regions locking. Their Hammer BD's are locked but I think most of the others have been free.

I should imagine there's probably different rights issues with some releases.

Regarding the colour timing issues with DEMONS...

Quote
DEMONS will, as I had suspected, be based on the 2K master Arrow Video created with Ciniteca di Bologna using the original negative, but they're going back to the initial, "raw" scan to create an entirely new master with proper color grading. Not only will we no longer have to deal with elevated black levels, but the day-for-night shots in the beginning of the film will be dealt with properly, which was something so far down on the list of big problems I had with Arrow's BD that it wasn't even in the Top Five. Still, awesome that Don May and company are being pro-active and fixing everything instead of just the stuff that made me blow a personal gasket.

Synapse is also tracking down the best materials they can for the "USA" Mono dub as featured on the various New World Pictures VHS and the Arrow Blu-ray, the "UK" Stereo dub as has always been included on pretty much every other DVD release ever, and the original Italian mix. In short, we're looking at the definitive DEMONS, and as much as the thought of double dipping on a Lamberto Bava Blu-ray makes me wince, it'll still be nice to see how thoroughly Synapse mops the floor with Arrow's sloppy attempt.

DEMONS 2 will, again, be based on the Arrow Video/Ciniteca di Bologna 2K master, but they're going to see what can be done to improve it. One needs only compare it to the Anchor Bay DVD to see that something went awry here.

The materials for the cheaper, crumbier sequel have never been all that good to start with, so honestly, if we can walk away with a new encode that's got the proper day-for-night timing and doesn't suck low bitrate balls, I'll be happy enough. The only downside here is the thought of actually watching Demons 2 again..

Over at Rock Shock Pop, there's talk of Argento's Opera coming from Synapse... really hope so. This one definitely needs an upgrade.

Don May Jnr posted a sly hint on his Facebook profile earlier which points to this being true.

Splendid news, Argento's last "great film" as far as I'm concerned.

If argued that Stendhal is pretty damn great too.

I really like Stendhal too but would say it's very good as opposed to great. I do like a lot of the post Opera ones but don't think any of them are as good or surpass it.  :D
