Thought you'd all get a kick out of these, I'm a projectionist at a multiplex cinema and my Boss started out doing the same thing in the 70's. Every week we fill out a book listing what films are showing with any comments about the state of the print, running times etc.

My Boss kept most of the books he filled out in the late 70's and early 80's. It's amazing to see the diverse range of films that were shown as double features in the days before home video. I'll not scan every single page, I'll just pick out some of the more 'interesting' ones.

Let me know what you think...

Some nice double bills there. I thought the projection equipment was mostly automatic these days?

They still need lacing up after every show and cleaning down. Plus the shows need monitoring for hairs in the gate, out of focus, making sure the right lens is in place for the feature etc On a normal day I'm here running 9 screens by myself... 33 screenings today.

These are really cool, mate - what a bunch of geeks we are getting excited!

I counted a few EuroCult titles in there - LAST SNOWS OF SPRING, THE ANTICHRIST, WAVES OF LUST, SUSPIRIA - would have been a great cinema to visit back then, eh?

I'm quite surprised at the differences in lengths of the reels. I'd always thought they were usually between 18 and 20 minutes. Shows how much I know.

The reel lengths depend on where the film makers want the reel changes to go, they try and time them so that they happen during a quiet part of the film, at the end of a scene etc. It's not a random process, quite a bit of thought goes into where the reel change should be. Hence the varying lengths of the reels.
