I watched the SS DVd the other night.

First off...Is it Anthropophagus or Antropophagus?

Anyways, has anyone else noticed the scene where the blind woman gets pulled through the roof is much more graphic in a trailer when compared to the film?
I wonder why?

Also...could someone please tell me which DVD with the American score has the best picture quality?

The Italian title is ANTROPOPHAGUS.  The English export title is THE SAVAGE ISLAND.

I no longer have the disc, but I think the best presentation of the American version is disc 2 of the German set from Relax under the title MANEATER.  If you prefer the US score, then disc 1 is also worth checking out since it did not use the export track (with the Giombini score), but a composite of the US track filled in with the Italian track for bits trimmed from the US version (presumably they did this out of laziness rather than source the export track from the UK tape).

Sleeves for the two U.K. tape releases from the 80's.

It's been well over 20 years since I watched the pre-cert, but doesn't it say Anthrophagous?

Thanks Eric!

It's not that I prefer the US score (I haven't heard it yet)
I would like to hear it even though even though I really like the Italian score with the synth and Gothic organ over-top.

There's a real cheap UK DVD of the US scored version coupled with Beyond The Door II but I'm not sure if I could get through it if it's a blurry fullscreen version.

Yes - and that alternate, bloodier take in the trailer is much better than the version which made the final cut. Pity, as it was always my favourite death in the film. Glad you mentioned it, I always wondered about it too.

It was common to shot several takes and then send some to the editor to make the trailer when the final cut was not yet finnished.

I was thinking since it's more graphic that it was originaly in the film but got the film a rating they didn't want so they reshot it (or edited it) then used the original for the trailers.
That way it wasn't a wasted shot.

There's a more graphic shot of Tomas Milian ripping off Anita Strindberg's top exposing her breasts in the trailer for ALMOST HUMAN that never made the finished film if I remember right?

Obvious hinting but this is added to the 88 films roster for June
