Yes -- and I would go as far as to say that Marins did it even earlier in 1970's AWAKENING OF THE BEAST, which imagines a medical experiment where the subjects are injected with LSD and monitored for how a poster of Coffin Joe influences their behavior/fantasies.

I see where your coming from but I was thinking more towards the fact that the directors of the piece make appearences as characters themselves.

I haven't seen AWAKENING OF THE BEAST so I'm not sure if Marins makes an appearence or not.

German Blu Ray / DVD Digibook.

How does it look? Is it worth 35EUR or should I wait for the Grindhouse version?

Not great but it's always looked like it was shot on cheap stock, I'm thinking the Grindhouse one may be the same transfer though as their intro comes on when you put the disc in. Maybe they licenced the transfer from them?

I was about to post that people on DTM forums say it's a fucking upscale, no better than the DVD.

Why do they keep doing things like this? Especially how much they charge for them.

I've emailed Grindhouse about their upcoming release after I read this post from an XT-Video insider:

I'll take a couple of screenshots off my Grindhouse DVD, please check them out and tell me if the BD looks better.

This release has a Blu Ray and a DVD in it, I'm going out soon but I'll compare them later this evening or tomorrow, I should imagine their isn't much difference though.

A friend of mine ordered this BD. What can I say, looks like shite, XT totally fucked it up. Doesn't look any better than my Grindhouse DVD. And those sorry fucks at XT want 35EUR for this abomination of release. I can post screens if there's any interest.

  • j'aime tous les dvds.

The German DVD/Blu market really is a minefield:
-
  • are they censored? (now online shops put "uncut" to ensure customers - phew!)
  • The quality/upscaling etc
  • English is on box, but not on the disk!
  • Annoying "limited to only 100 copies", so silly prices!!
  • Always bloody hard to buy, obscure German sites - hard to find/navigate, pay for etc
  • Can either be dirt cheap or just daft pricing
  • The big clamshell boxes and German titles everywhere on the packaging
  • Being unsure if they are legit or not!

Arrggggghhh.....ok I kind of don't like them however they do release some nice titles, and the mainstream labels come out with decent barebone disks for less than 10 quid.

Wonder if this'll be worth the upgrade to blu from Grindhouse. Ordered the dvd from Diabolik when they announced the package for The Beyond, regretted it when I heard of the blu coming out, now i wonder if it'll be worth it?  ???
