« on: 15 May 2008 - 12:50 »

Just read over at the SWWB John Phillip Law has passed away aged 70.

Very sad news.  Thought he was great in DEATH RIDES A HORSE and DANGER DIABOLIK.

Yes, I just read this on the NY Times site. Very sad and shocking news. It wasn't long ago he sent me a signed photo.

Yeah, it wasn't that long ago he was in Roman Coppola's CQ, and when I saw him, I thought he looked great for his age.

Tim Lucas, Bava expert, who recorded a commentary track with Law for R1 DANGER DIABOLIK has posted twice over at his blog abot JP Law.

Apparently, John Philip was informed a couple of weeks ago that he only had six months to live.   Unfortunately the end came much faster.

Oh, no! What awful news! So many great B-movie actors have died recently (Hazel Court, Julie Ege etc) and now good old John Phillip Law too! He was a very enjoyable actor and will certainly be missed. Of course, he also did lots of cool Euro stuff outside of BARBARELLA and DIABOLIK. The excellent EYES BEHIND THE WALL (1977) is one of his best Euro-films and he was also quite amusing in the demented BLOOD DELIRIUM (1988) and played smaller parts in THE CASSANDRA CROSSING (1976) and RING OF DARKNESS (1977) - both personal faves.

R.I.P. John Phillip Law.

Damn and I just recently saw him in OPEN SEASON and SKIDOO.  I always thought he was pretty cool, particularly as DIABOLIK and in DEATH RIDES A HORSE.

He left an impression on me with his role as Sinbad in THE GOLDEN VOYAGE OF SINBAD. I thought he was much better than either Kerwin Matthews or Patrick Wayne capturing perfectly the Arabian Nights flavor in his performance.

Over at the Cinebeats blog there's a youtube trailer called "The Swinging Lust World of JPL."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E50IwzZJVBE&feature=related

Hopefully this is an upcoming documentary on his JPL's life.  Even if not, it's still a kck ass trailer.  ;)

I also found a second youtube video entitled, The Swinging Lust World of John Phillip Law - Trailer (3mn)

Damn and I just recently saw him in OPEN SEASON...

I love Open Season. Great film, great cast: JPL, Peter Fonda and Richard Lynch. I have it on tape under the title Recon Game. Anyone know if it's out on disc anywhere?
