By the look of the running time it has been resubmitted for cinema (considering things have to be submitted again for video after being on the cinema whose to say it can't happen the other way around)

I may be wrong but that's what i reckon.

Yes, it's a cinema release. It's says so on the BBFC page, that's why I put 'In UK Cinemas' in the thread title  :D

Classified for film and gives the running time in feet...

"The running time of this film was calculated from the measured length of 16087+6 ( feet + frames )"

It's showing at the Bradford Museum in September, digital print but it's in the large Pictureville screen which is a really excellent auditorium.

I'm going to do my best to get to one of the shows.

More info on the Bradford screenings HERE

Great news, eh! :-X

I think I'll rent it first, and see if they announce a Leone box-set (which wouldn't surprise me) soon thereafter.

Is it likely to be region locked?

The American release is up for preorder at PlayUSA for £12.99 delivered but I it is not clear whether it will be region locked or not.  Some of the recent MGM/Sony titles, such as SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, have been region free.

Does anyone know if there are any blu ray releases that have the shorter version on them (without the bits that were put back in & overdubbed a few years back)? Cheers  :'(

Unfortunately not, I prefer that version too.

That's a shame, but thanks for the reply. All thing considered they did a pretty decent job, but it still jars.

I like them as extras but I've seen the film so many times they just don't seem to fit to me.

It's the dubbing that gets me more than anything, Eastwood and Wallach dubbing themselves with their older voices just doesn't sit right with me. Doesn't ruin it for me either, I just prefer it without.

It's great that that footage was restored, but I honestly didn't feel any of it added to the film. The "shorter" version being the superior cut, imo.

And yes, I too found the older voices of Eastwood and Wallach to be distracting, but at least they didn't have to call Anthony Hopkins in to imitate either of those two gentlemen.

It's not just the new dubbing that I dislike in the longer cut: it's the new foley track. The new gunshots, etc, really irritate me: to my ears, they're nothing like those in the original sound mix. The same goes for the BD releases of FISTFUL... and FOR A FEW... (Thankfully, I've got the Italian BD of FISTFUL with the original mono mix, and the German Paramount DVD release of FOR A FEW...)
