PROFONDO GIALLO: THE GOLDEN AGE OF THE ITALIAN THRILLER
This year, the NIFFF proposes an original retrospective focused on the works that ensured the
success of the giallo genre during the 60s and 70s. This is a unique opportunity to see the classics of
the genre: originally derived from a collection of popular novels recognizable from their yellow
covers, hence the name, giallo movies combine detective stories with horror, fantasy and eroticism.
The fifteen titles in the selection present an overview of the genre, with works by precursors Mario
Bava and Ricardo Freda, and by the filmmaker who was soon to become the master of giallo, Dario
Argento, but also with rarities such as Il profumo della signora in nero by Francesco Barilli and Cosa
avete fatto a Solange? by Massimo Dallamano. In addition to this, the NIFFF will also offer two nights
of genuine filmic strangeness (Notte Cannibal Italia, Italia Bizzarra Notte) and give carte blanche to
the festivals of Venice, Ravenna and Trieste.

Special guests include Ruggero Deodato, Lamberto Bava and Jess Franco. Wish I could be there!

Interesting !

I don't seem to be able to find any further details of the programmation on the site - weird, since it's to be held in four weeks. Do I overlook something?

EDIT: Ah - I see. The French version of the site is more up to date and mentions a date of june 13 for the program to be made public.

They made the list of Italian horrors and gialli public today:
http://nifff.ch/index.php?section=2&subsection=retro+Italian+Horror+and+Thrillers

Cosa avete fatto a Solange ? (Massimo Dallamano) Italy
Demoni 2 (Lamberto Bava) Italy
I Corpi presentano tracce di violenza carnale (Sergio Martino) Italy
Il dolce corpo di Deborah (Romolo Guerrieri) Italy
Il profumo della signora in nero (Francesco Barilli) Italy
Italia Bizzarra Night Italy
Italia Cannibale Night Italy
L'Anticristo (Alberto De Martino) Italy
L'orribile segreto del Dr. Hichcock (Riccardo Freda) Italy
L'uccello dalle piume di cristallo (Dario Argento) Italy
La Casa dalle finestre che ridono (Pupi Avati) Italy
Macchie Solari (Armando Crispino) Italy
Orgasmo (Umberto Lenzi) Italy
Suor omicidi (Giulio Berruti) Italy
Terrore nello spazio (Mario Bava) Italy

The two theme nights run for a few hours each and will probably show several films: the page for the Italia Bizzara night shows a poster of The Devil's Wedding Night, while the Italia Cannibale night shows a pic of Antropophagus.

They also program a few of Jess Franco's Dietrich productions:

Blue Rita / Le cabaret des filles perverses (Jesus Franco) Germany
Downtown (Jesus Franco) Switzerland
Jack the Ripper (Jesus Franco) Switzerland

Yep. Agreed, it looks like an amazing line up of films.

Any news on whether they are 35mm shows or digital?

If you go to the festival's site and click on the film titles then, if I'm understanding it correctly, it says the source. All the ones I've clicked are 35mm. And some of them in English!
