An excellent film. It seems unfair (and rather misguided) that the film is often refered to as a giallo - it's more a character study in the vein of Roman Polanski's Repulsion, IMO. The real stand out is Mimsy Farmer, however, who is a real revelation in the cenral role.

This is very similar in tone to Luigi Bazzoni's Le Orme(Footprints) and i think you're right about it be unfairly refered to as a giallo Paul as i certainly wouldn't put it in that genre either,quite difficult to define this really but the word classic does come to mind.

It's a really affecting film and Mimsy Farmer is temendous in it. this really does polarise people. I've had conversations with many people that dislike it and they usually cite the languid pacing or the ending. I would definitely agree with you, Stephen. It's a classic.

It's definitely a classic in my estimations. A superb film, I can see the tenuous link that makes some people call it a Gialli but, it is, like Comp says a Polianski style character study. I've probably only seen Mimsy in a handful of films in fact only 'Autopsy' springs to mind after this film. She is really great in this, slowly going nuts, and I found the end to be quite touching and sad. When I say the end, I mean the rooftop scene with Mimsy on her own... Not the bit after it. 

One of my most prized DVD's the Raro edition of this film has a brilliant transfer, only ever saw this film on VHS prior to the DVD via the Greek tape.

Saw 'Black Cat' about 15 years ago on a VTC VHS and can't remember much about it to be honest, never seen 'Four Flies' I've got various copies of it but never got around to seeing it...

If it's the Raro DVD - I believe that's the only digital release the film has had worldwide.

This is the de Agostini edition with Italian language only,part of their 'I Maestria della Paura' series.I think they licensed it from Minerva/Raro and sell them cheaply in bargain bins,newsstands etc.

Yes, this is indeed the one. Apologies, I should have realised it was a later release.

I'm in the minority with a negative view of this film.I'm a tolerate person when it comes to watching films but this
one grated on my nerves.It stems from my dislike of Rosemary's Baby,the occult,voodoo conspiracy +the scenes of her as a child went on for too long.I usually do not like kids in films except if they have to be in the background.Only exception would be The Window '49 with Bobby Driscoll due to the way he handles himself against the person who wants to kill him. Other roles that Mimsy Farmer star in such as Four Flies On Grey Velvet,a favorite film & Autopsy I admire.The cinematography is outstanding & Raro Video did a fantastic quality release.

The movie didn't do much for me either although I also have to admit its cinematography was great and so was the Raro disc. I had been hearing great words about the movie for years and had very high expectations- the movie just failed to live up to them. I'd rather watch THE SHORT NIGHT OF GLASS DOLLS anytime!

Just watched this film last night! It was pretty clear from the start that this wouldn't be your standard gialli. Like others have stated that this is more of a character study is quite right. This time I was little bit disappointed by that because I wanted to see something more action packed.

When I got over the slow pacing start, I actually started to like this film. The film is very eerie and atmospheric. What happens in this film isn't so obvious, many strange things happens as Mimsy goes through her childhood traumas. Are these weird cultist driving Mimsy mad or are they just opportunist who attack when they see prey. And the ending seemed  kind of odd. It fits the theme with the cult but something about it just isn't right. I think that film should have ended with the scene where Mimsy is on the roof.

Gonna watch extras from the Raro DVD today if they offers something interesting in English
