Amanti D'Oltretomba / Nightmare Castle (Mario Caiano, 1965)

I'm surprised to see that there's not an existing thread about this movie!  ;D

Anyway, this is one of my all time favorite Gothic movies, I really love it.
I love Ennio Morricone's score, I love Enzo Barboni's black and white cinematography, I love the actors (Helga Liné is stunning beautiful), I love Caiano's elegance and class directing the movie.

It was a real pleasure for me to work on the extras of upcoming Severin Dvd.
It will be released on May 19 and it will feature the English audio track.
There'll be two featurettes in the extra features section: one with Barbara Steele and one with Mario Caiano.

I did Caiano's one and here you find some screenshots
(yes, in the second one the cat is really attacking Caiano  :-\ )

The title BLACK, WHITE AND RED comes from the fact that originally the movie was supposed to be in black, white and red but, since it was too expensive to do that, they had to renounce.
The movie looks great anyway but I wonder how would it be if they had enough money to print it in 3 colors...

Cool stuff Federico!

Looking forward to seeing this when the Severin DVD is released, I'm pretty sure I've not seen it before.

I've got this as a PD disc too, but after watching the first few minutes I realised that this looked too good to watch on such a crummy print and decided to wait for a real release.

How long is the Mario Caiano interview, I'd love to hear more about his films, his work on 'Nosferatu a Venezia' in particular.

The Caiano featurette lasts about 15 minutes but it's pretty exhaustive.
I have many many many leftovers and there's some good stuff about Nosferatu In Venice too. Maybe one day it will see the light  :D

I've got this as The Faceless Monster (Retromedia) but I'm certain I will be picking the new disc up!  :D
I really like golden age Italian gothic.

No, no, I just mean that Caiano's interview was very long and we talked about lots of his movies (western, peplum, crime movies...) and also about Nosferatu.
Since everything he said was very interesting (Caiano is a wonderful talker and a very cultured man) I'm sure that sooner or later there will be a way to use his words for some featurette or documentary.
Every bit of his interview needs to be used, he's a great guy.

If anyone has not yet picked it up, I highly recommend the Severin disc, it is a revelation compared to the PD copies and really emphasises how nice this film looks.
