  • Leonardo Tanzi is the Don!

I got this idea on Sunday when i was round Alfetta's house.

He stuck on an episode of THE RETURN OF THE SAINT with Ian Ogilvy that was set in Italy and i noticed that Luciano Pigozzi (Alan Collins) had a role in it, also in the same episode Ogilvy went into someone's apartment and there were posters for COLT .38 SPECIAL SQUAD and Tarantini's CRIMEBUSTERS on the wall (and a poster for another crime film but i couldn't figure out what it was).

I also saw a MURDER SHE WROTE a few years ago that had Tomas Milian and James Coburn in, Milian was also in an episode of THE EQUALIZER but i am yet to see it.

Anyone think of any more.

I think Tomas Milian and Joe Dallesandro have both appeared in MIAMI VICE.

This is from an old thread on AV Maniacs about 2 years ago.

I saw a familiar face on 'Space 1999', Luckily I recorded it so I could do some grabs.

Martin identified the actor, I thought it was Giannini for some reason but Mart pointed out that it was Orso Maria Guerrini.

Giancarlo Prete and Gianni Garko were also in the first series, something to do with RAI being involved with the production.

Good find Stephen! Sounds like Garko's own voice too, I think in the episode I saw with Guerrini in he had his voice dubbed by someone else.

'Space 1999' used to be a favourite of mine when it was first aired, I still enjoy it when I catch the re-runs.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing myself! If that’s the case, it´s great to hear how Garko's voice sounds like!  ::)

Looking at the episode guides for this series i'm wondering if it was infact an Italian/British co-production as alot seem to have been filmed in Italy and featured some genre favorites like Venantino Venantini,Marino Masé,Giovanni Cianfriglia,Olga Karlatos,Lorraine de Selle,Paolo Malco,Elsa Martinelli etc.

I'm pretty sure I've seen a few familiar faces in shows like THE CHAMPIONS that starred Alexandra Bastedo, Stuart Damon and William Gaunt (recently in HOLBY CITY and HEARBEAT  :-*).

RETURN OF THE SAINT was co-produced by RAI, I believe, and that's why so many Italian actors had guest roles. ITC and RAI collaborated on a lot of TV productions - SPACE 1999 is another example, and then there's the SEAGULL ISLAND mini series etc.

Other Euro actors popped up in American TV shows too. Marilù Tolo tried her hand at a Hollywood career in the late 70s and appeared in an episode of CHARLIE'S ANGELS.

Katia Christine did the same thing in the early 80s. She had small guest roles in shows like CHIPS, KNIGHT RIDER and THE FALL GUY but never really had much Hollywood success, unfortunately...

Robert Rietty dubbed Orso Maria Guerrini in the SPACE 1999 episode.  Rietty is best known for dubbing Robert Shaw in AVALANCHE EXPRESS, Adolfo Celi in THUNDERBALL, and Tiger Tanaka in YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE.  Rietty's voice pops up numerous times in season 1 of SPACE 1999 (the only good season, season 2 was overall quite abysmal and lacked the fun Italian guest stars).

Gianni Garko I believe used his own voice for the one where he fights the space dragon - Rietty is credited with his voice, but I think it's a fluke.  If he did dub Garko, it's likely only for one or two brief lines.

I believe Giancarlo Prete's voice is genuinely his own.  It's great to hear as he only had a mild Italian accent as well.  I think the only other movies where you can hear his actual voice are DETECTIVE SCHOOL DROPOUTS, MASSACRE IN ROME, and possibly WAR AND REMEMBRANCE (haven't seen that one yet).

It's a shame these 3 didn't do more work outside of Italy.  Prete especially was a very good actor and gets a nice dual role in his 1999 episode.  I feel terrible he was stuck in such lousy movies like THE NEW BARBARIANS in the early 80's and then thankless small roles later on.

Also, Carla Romanelli appeared in a SPACE 1999 episode.  She was in SHANGHAI JOE, MILANO ROVENTE, and COP KILLER.
