Well, this is awesome news!!! HOLOCAUST 2000 is a terrific films and one of the top unreleased Italian horror films out there. Can't wait to get this.

Btw, there should be at least one other version of this film. It was released in the US as THE CHOSEN, and featured a different ending - apparently because the original European ending (which I think is great) was somewhat open and it was thought it wouldn't please the US audience. Never actually seen it but I hope this alternate ending will be included on the DVD.

RAIN OF FIRE is the title on the old uncut Dutch VHS release, here's a grab from that tape...

Maybe Lionsgate used the same master for their DVD?

Grab from the Italian DVD under the original HOLOCAUST 2000 title...

I don't remember liking this movie much, but that probably won't stop me from buying it.  Isn't there a cool scene where...
some guy gets his head chopped by a helicopter?
Indeed, there is. :)  I enjoyed this one a whole lot more than the Omen.

The US tape and TV prints of the AIP version were titled HOLOCAUST 2000.

Perhaps it was released under both both titles (I do recall seeing it on video and on TV as HOLOCAUST 2000).  This is Vestron's ad for the tape release:

According to the Lionsgate publicity material, the film will be anamorphic 1.78:1

So, its cropped?  I haven't seen it in quite a while but I'm pretty sure the opening credits of the English Holocaust 2000 version say its in Techniscope

Never noticed the Techniscope credit before, I'll have to double check when I get home now. I'll still be buying it regardless.

The title cap on the LionsGate certainly looks cropped compared to the that windowboxed Italian one:

Wouldn't be the first time LionsGate has cropped a scope release to 1.78:1.  The horrible Filmax production THE NUN was anamorphic 2.35:1 and their DVD was cropped noticeably to 1.78:1 with resulting fuzziness in some shots (I think their retitling of ROMASANTA titled WEREWOLF HUNTER was also cropped).  Also the Super 35mm production CREEP was opened up to 1.78:1 compared to the 2.35:1 UK disc.
