Also known as MADHOUSE and available from German label XT Video and an atrocious UK release by Film 2000, I'm happy to find out that Dark Sky is planning an R1 DVD release some time in 2008...  :P

The UK disc had awful sound but at least it was widescreen.  The end credits say it was mixed in Dolby Stereo.

A pretty uneven film - the priest going knife-happy would have suited better for a black comedy ??? - but the dog attacks are truly vicious and the Ortolani score adds the needed atmosphere.

Ended also on the banned list in Germany.

I don't think I'll really need an SE of this, I was happy enough to finally get it uncut and in widescreen.... :-\

There's a real credibility issue with the heroine trusting herself to be blindfolded by the priest whose singing voice is pretty creepy.

  • Leonardo Tanzi is the Don!

Ended also on the banned list in Germany.

And here in the U.K. too.

I remember watching this on Greek VHS quite a few years ago and it was VERY BAD! I wouldn't mind giving it a second chance since its coming out on remastered widescreen DVD though!

Hardly a great film - the cast is really bland - but I think it perks up considerably in the last third by throwing in lots of over-the-top insanity and gore. I enjoyed it OK.

The UK disc looks pretty nice but the audio may possibly be the worst I've ever heard on any DVD! An upgrade certainly wouldn't hurt!

Screencap comparison between the Film 2000 and Dark Sky discs:

The Dark Sky caps have been downsized because the Film 2000 disc is not anamorphic. The US title card says 'there was a little girl' and the UK says 'madhouse'.

I'm sure it's from the same master.

Other than being non-anamorphic the UK disc looked okay, its the muffled sound that was the real issue.  I believe the Dark Sky sound is improved but I haven't seen it yet.

Also, the end credits state that the film was in Dolby Stereo.  I couldn't tell if it was or not because of the sound quality and I think the US tape I have is Hi-Fi mono.

If it is the same source, then that would explain the replaced title card on the UK disc.  The US video release was titled MADHOUSE with a different (and probably original) font than seen on the UK disc.

Yes, the sound on the Dark Sky disc is actually pretty good!

Here are the title cards, the 'madhouse' one looks a little fake..

Looks like the exact screener I have, but with the "little girl" credit. Sound wasn't that bad, if I remember correctly.

Anybody actually likes this? I remember it being shitty but its been a very long tim since last watched it. And the VHS I saw was probably cut. I would give the film another chance since the US disc is uncut and widescreen.

I've never been able to understand why though, of all the "nasties" this was probably the most inoffensive.
