L'Anticristo (Alberto De Martino, 1974)
« on: 14 Jan 2009 - 00:07 »

Suppose I could have posted this Italian Exorcist-copy, starring Mel Ferrer and scored by Morricone, in the 'Dodgy Rip Off' section but it's better than that! Anyway, Optimum notified me today that this will be released on DVD on March 16th. They're sending me a check disc so will report back. Can't wait... it's a lot of fun. Still have my Intervision tape under the title The Tempter.

Since it's from Optimum, the content will likely be the same as the Anchor Bay disc since Studio Canal supplied that master.

The film was drastically cut in the US (as THE TEMPTER) for an R-rating and to improve pacing.  The Canadian version ran longer (though not quite uncut) but it substituted some of the foul language with alternate voice takes.

I absolutely love the movie! much more entertaining that "exorcist I - IV"...!!!
nice to hear that it'll be rereleased since that anchor bay disc is oop. a commentary would be nice, although optimum apparently don't know how to spell "extra"...

It seems that Optimum don't have as much pull with Studio Canal as some American companies do.

Studio Canal own Optimum. Optimum just don't spend money on extras, they just bang them out.

For some reason, I thought I had read that they had entered into a (rather one-sided) deal with Studio Canal.  I was not aware that they owned Optimum.

Picture quality is great - what a treat to see that goat's arse in all its glory! Haven't seen other DVD releases so can't compare.

Studio Canal supplied the Anchor Bay master so it is likely the same.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but there are now 2 Blu-Ray releases, one in Austria, and one in Germany.

Does anyone know how the German release, by Sunfilm Entertainment, compares to the Austrian BD release?

Thanks  ;)

Great to hear, considering the German release is less than half the price of the Austrian digibook.
