this is of interest only for those who understand German -
It has been mentioned before, Ulrich Bruckner, head of our beloved Koch Media, has published a book on paghetti western that - judging from the sheer size of the book - looks like it's THE essential book on the subject in German.
http://www.amazon.de/Leichen-mehr-Italo-Western-seinen-Anf%C3%A4ngen/dp/3896027050/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1235138105&sr=1-2
It's entitled "Für ein paar Leichen mehr - der Italo-Western von seinen Anfängen bis heute" ("For a few corpses more - the italo-western from its beginnings til today".
A second, revised edition has just been released, its 750-pages strong!
Judging from the excerpt that was included in Koch's Sollima-Box set, it's got to be nothing less than brilliant! I haven't got it as yet, but somebody promised it to me as a birthday gift, so I'm waiting....

Congrats, you sure got yourself a nice present there! You'd better sign off from work for a few days when you receive it ::)

I got hold of the first edition some years ago. It was a nice and thorough read but I honestly have to say I liked Christian Keßler's book more. I wonder what's different in this revised edition, though...

it's what you occasionally do after the DVD's over, before you put in the next one!

Have you come around to read the book? What do you think of it?

Yeah, I understand your feelings! But I dunno if it's a lucrative project for the publisher though...

a lot of the reviews in this book seem to be lifted from sources like the 'western all'italiana' books by glittering images (where you find the italian/english originals) - uncredited, of course...

really? this would surprise me a lot. Since Bruckner is head of the programme direction (or whatever that may be called in English) at Koch Media. I wouldn't expect him having to resort to copying other peoples' reviews. MPW do that, though.

iI wouldn't mean to blame Bruckner himself - somewhere I read he had some people collaborating with him on the book, which would be quite normal with a work of such dimensions.

i think i have to back off a little on what i said -- after watching a film i like to check what others had to say about it so on several occasions i took the Bruckner book and i.e. the Glittering Images one and noticed some striking resemblances (down to the very phrasing).

i hope i can find some examples over the weekend, otherwise forget what i said.
