88 Films just rip foreign Blus and add the English language track. That's all they do. I won't support any of their releases.

They do a little more than that...c'mon, they employ Wadell :)

And they are working with CO which took me by surprise!

Over at bluray.com the 88 Insider posted  ( the typos are his )
We seem to have very unsavoury reputation for some reason and in our opinion it's undeserved. We have never "stolen" a transfer. We operate like every other company in this business, we enquire about a title with a licensor, see if a master exists and if it is satisfactory then either licence it using the existing master that has been offered by the licensor, or if we feel the expense is worth it as in the case of Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, Splatter University, Burial Ground etc we might create our own at a very large expense.

It's difficult to know what else to say, we have never worked in conjunction with another company until Amuck as we have never been approached to do so, we don't really know what we're supposed to have done wrong....

 ;D
Some of this smells like bullshit to me, I have heard they have been approached to participate with other companies in paying for new masters, and have always declined.  Then when the new master is done and paid for they licence for a fraction of the cost.  They also have crowdfunded some restorations and are in the process of doing this yet again.

I really don't know what's worse: just ripping or doing that thing you say... On the other hand, CO have stated that they have NEVER worked with 88 to share the costs of buying a HD master. 88 are just liars!

Don't buy it. I just can't see how that is legal and/or someone hasn't pulled them up on it.

The amount of bullshit in this thread is amazing. I'm not a big fan of 88, the Waddell thing, gladly releasing censored films, crowd funding masters for films that were originally with another label etc but I've bought some of their releases.

This is what CO had to say about Amuck:

"88 sublicensed the UK rights from us. We will supervise the scan and restoration process (which will begin shortly) and provide 88 with the restored master."

Some people want to believe every word that comes out of Walt and the ever-likeable bitter Bill's mouth and take it as gospel and others just want to make shit up in their head and spout it out. Anyone with a pair of fucking eyes can see they don't just rip foreign blus. They just use the same masters as X-Rated, Raro etc etc

As for the matter of waiting for transfers to be available even if paid by someone else, that's just business isn't it? As much business as CO realising it's good to work with others or license to others as is their own choice, or as much business as Bill buying worldwide rights to something specifically to stop other territories releasing it???

Saints and sinners obviously in some people's eyes. Unbelievable. Loads of people are acting like they've got money on a horse. This is my hobby. I deal with enough wankers regularly in work so I'm not about to let a bunch of people I don't know get my back up. Some labels I'd probably rather not buy from but if they're the only choice I will because as yet any of them are yet to kill members of my family or friends, or carry out genocide.

Seriously, I bet there are much bigger cunts dealing with the food you eat on a daily basis than any of this lot so go ahead and fucking starve yourselves.

I wish this wasn't all in the Camera Obscura thread as it would be nice if it was cleaned up so people could actually just talk about their releases.

You may be right in a lot of what you've just written but I must say that's not the way... I mean, the words and vocabulary you use. Try to relax and use your mind before writing, mate. Take ir or leave it, but it's a good advice.

Why? Because I used some "bad words" and pointed some things out? I'm calm and certainly did use my mind beforehand which is advice you probably need when you go around saying they rip foreign blus which is probably libel legally.

No idea about ripping foreign blu-rays but they are liars and shady. Also the majority of their releases are of atrocious quality.

88 remind of being run by a pair of 21 year olds who have no idea about the films they release they just google films which sound good and then release them :-\

no idea if this is accurate or not :-\

I just say that there are many ways to express your disconformity with other people's feelings or opinions. I think I've already told you that you might be right in a sense, but that does NOT imply that you have the right to reject other people's opinions and impose yours, as if it was a dogma.

You know, like many other guys out there, what this label has done with some of their releases not long ago. And that's a fact. A real fact. So, come on, mate, are you going to try and reject that "real fact"?

Hate getting twisted into this thread (we should be speaking about CO anyway!!). But curiosity has grabbed me. Can you detail what this label has done and show how you know this?

I ask as I have bought a few of their releases (no problems with them so far!!). What I do  know is the "subtitles problem" which hit one of our board members which frankly left a bitter taste.
