No problem at all Ben, I'm seriously pleased to have been able to help you out and reading your post makes me want to check this one out again! I thought it'd be rude to not send you 'Investigation' mate, I look forward to hearing what you think of it... Elio Petri's good isn't he?

Watched Mart's excellent A Quiet Place in the Country fan dub last night and I can only agree with the previously posted praise. It's a fantastic film with wonderful performances by Nero and Redgrave (who looks stunning).
That none of Petri's films are available on english language dvd (apart from the OOP AB 10th Victim) is unfathomable. There certainly is enough artistc value in both this and INVESTIGATION to merit a release by Criterion or somebody else releasing art-house.
Would love to see WE STILL KILL THE OLD WAY (starring Gian Maria Volontè), PROPERTY IS NO LONGER A THEFT or any of his other films. Anybody seem them (or better still) have copies of these?

Just saw A QUIET PLACE IN THE COUNTRY fandub about a week ago. Brilliant, crazy film!  Love INVESTIGATION and 10th VICTIM too.  Petri definitely needs to be reevaluated and we need a Criterion or Eclipse box set of his films w/subs for English speaking (reading) film lovers.

BTW a Region free NTSC version of the 10th VICTIM from Russia, with English & Italian audio is available at Amazon.com, or through Tony at Xploited.

I bought the Russian disc, which uses an Italian print - with an anamorphic 1.78:1 transfer - and possibly may be the same source as the 2001 US Anchor Bay R1 NTSC disc, though the AB disc appears to be composed just slightly tighter at the top. For example, on the AB disc the MC at Masoch Club has part of his head slightly cropped off, while the Russian disc has just a slight bit more of info on top to avoid the cropping. It's really negligible.

The Russian disc has Italian, English and Russian audio with Russian and English subtitles, while the AB disc Italian and English audio with English subtitles. On the Russian disc, if you choose the Russian audio, it plays over the Italian track simultaneously, so it must be a commentary track.

On the Russian disc the Italian track is mixed nicely with Piero Piccioni's fabulous score prominent, while the English track is muffled with Piccioni's score buried in the mix. The AB disc is just the reverse with the English being the better of the two mixes.

Since I prefer the mix with Marcello Mastroianni's voice, I prefer the Russian disc for the superior Italian audio mix.

That's not a commentary track.  Its a Russian overdub (usually with one man and one woman doing voices for all of the characters).

Just watched the QUIET PLACE last night (cheers Jonny ;) ) and i totally agree with the general opinion here. Its such a clever film in that with the Nero character gradually going round the bend its not always clear whether the happenings, especially the gripping supernatural elements, are for real or totally in Nero's screwed up imagination.

A wonderful and unique masterpiece. ::)

Just returned from the venice film festival where they had a one-off screening of this wonderful film. Before the screening there was a short introduction, but then to my shock and surprise both franco nero and vanessa redgrave walked in. They proceeded to have a pre-screening discussion about the film and then sat and watched the film together. A quiet though definite highlight of the festival.

Un Tranquillo Posto di Campagna is an exceptional film. I like it a lot. It deserves a better exposure.

I have the italian DVD from CDE. The image/sound quality is excellent.

It's the only film by Eli Petri I saw. I'll definitely check the other...

It's retailing at 9 euros over at FNAC Link HERE

So that £18 eBay deal doesn't seem so attractive, to me anyway.

Do they post to the U.K. and if they do do you know how much?

Cool.

Do they post to the U.K. and if they do do you know how much?

FNAC France ship to the UK so I'd expect the Spanish branch to do the same. No idea about postage, I put one in my shopping cart and the standard shipping was 6 euro so I'd expect a bit more on that for UK shipping.

So buying this in Spain it would be about £13 delivered.

£18 is about 22 euros at the moment, so bearing in mind the FNAC international shipping could be something silly like 12 euro it might well not be that much of a saving buying it from there. Unless you bought a few of them.

Are there any members in Spain who could buy a few for us?
