Crystal Plumage apart from the obvious about it being genre defining is a good film, it's well paced, the score is excellent and while being reasonably tame the murders have style. Mario Adorf is in it too! There's a classic scene where the killer's silhouette presents a blade in dedication to an important plot item that is for me one of the images that defines what horror movies are all about.

The Blue Underground release is packed with nice extras including a really informative commentary track by Alan Jones and Kim Newman.

I'd say you've gotta buy this one. :-X

Stephen, that's the first positive note on 7 DEATHS I've read. I was really pushing to get it as I read about the gothic trappings. My friend who is the giallo nut didn't like it either. How about the other one? FORBIDDEN PHOTOS...? I'll definitely be getting at least the first two along with ALL THE COLORS OF THE DARK.

I've always liked 7 Deaths, something about the style and atmosphere.
Forbidden Photos is ok,it's quite slow in places and not as good as Ercoli's other 2 gialli though some hail it as a classic.

I got NAKED YOU DIE today. How is this one? Even though I got it now still I'd like some opinion on it. It sounds good.

I've had this film for about three years and have bought it twice - as SCHOOLGIRL KILLER on the X-Rated Kult Film label from Germany and then the US Dark Sky release - haven't seen either version! Hahaha.

Hello there..I have only been watching giallo now for 6 months or so,( I have been watching poliziotteschi for a lot longer) although I had been a fan of Argento for quite awhile I found it hard to get past him if you know what I mean?? I have on dvd at the moment-

Strange vice of Mrs Wardh
Your Vice is a locked room and only I have the key
Black Belly of the Tarantula
Suspected death of a minor
Death walks on high heels box set
Case of Scorpions tail

I have really enjoyed these so far..especially Suspected death and Mrs Wardh. I have read quite a few reviews of Short Night of Glass dolls...its sounds really interesting, what do you think? I'm a great fan of Umberto Lenzi so I was gonna pick up 'Spasmo', I can still remember the old VHS cover in my local video rental shop back in the day...insane! Any other recommendations you could give me would be great. Cheers

I can't recommend much as like you I've seen only Argento's work and one or two stray releases. I have around a dozen of them sitting on one of my shelves unopened but I'll get around to them shortly. SPASMO is one of them and I'm a big Lenzi fan, too.

I watched Lenzi's "Seven Bloodstained Orchids" recently and enjoyed it, you may like that. And i'd highly recommend checking out "What have you done to Solange" by Dallamano. I rate his work very high. The italian release has great picture quality but the english soundtrack is a bit duff. It's got subs too though.
I've never seen the Shriek Show version to compare.

Short Night... is a fine movie, that and Who Saw Her Die? are a nice pair of classy gialli.

I notice that when i watch a giallo i get more satisfaction from the film then i would from the newest american film whether it be thriller or horror. maybe its that the giallo touches all the bases that viewers respond to like the excellent music and photography, the sexy women, the car chases and the bizarre motives of the killer. anybody else think so?

I have to agree with you there completely, I feel the same way about the crime films.  :P

I received the Hkflix newsletter and they're referring to an US label/distributor named Euro Cult, who among things seem to have released DEATH CARRIES A CANE:

So, who has got any info on this label and their releases?? It looks like it could be a bootleg of the X-rated Kult DVD...

Looking at the rest of their releases that Hkflix have then, yes, it's definitely a bootleg.

The only company to have released DEATH CARRIES A CANE legally (to my knowledge) is X-Rated Kult film in Germany. They later re-released it with a better transfer, too.
