Without giving too much away (i hope) i've watched it 3 times recently with different mates, deffo not the Mrs  and the ending reminded me a bit of Short Night Of Glass Dolls. If that makes sense to those who have seen Martyrs? Personally I thought Martyrs was a profoundly disturbing experience and a top class intelligent film that transcends Horror. As for the criticism that the last half is repetitive, thats the point ! Put yourself in the characters shoes and see what you would do.

the problem is that i didn't care at all for the character so,seeing her being beaten to death,eating rotten food,pissing on herself,etc left me cold and it was even almost comical...the film looks like a kind of arty "Hostel".
I didn't like too the "sect",with the cheesy fat grandma delivering her pretentious,explicative speech about the "martyrs"...

Gonna pick this up on dvd today...I was'nt expecting much from it, but it was a total classic.

Do I buy this? Don't really know that much about it and am trying to avoid reading anything as I'd rather go into it cold if I'm going to watch it.

Edit : just bought it from Amazon for £7 for the Blu-ray.

It's along time since a film disturbed me as much as Martyrs. I should give the special features a look, but I'm in no great hurry to revisit the film itself.

Glad you bought it - Read nothing else. Watch the film and then post what you think. It's a real Marmite film. I loved it but there are people that fucking hate it.

But I liked it! 

I was totally gripped by the first half - it's probably a good job the whole film didn't carry on in the same way because I barely breathed I was so absorbed! I disagree that it was badly acted, I thought quite the opposite. I did think the torture scenes in the 2nd half were too long though - we already had a picture of what would happen from previous victims, I think they could have halved them and used brief dialogue from her tormentors to illustrate the passing of time if need be. I'm still thinking about the ending - it can be taken so many ways I keep changing my mind about what it meant. And I cried like a big girl in the end (I'm allowed!) and went to bed sniffling

Good luck to them. I can't imagine watching this remake unless of course it's significantly different and at all decent.
