Death and the Devil fest
« on: 10 Oct 2009 - 10:34 »

Thought some people might like a heads up about this. While the prospect of seeing RACE WITH THE DEVIL and BLACK SABBATH on the big screen is appealing it's too much of an expense and effort for me to bother going to.

FAB Fest 5 - Death and the Devil is an all day film festival, live performance and booklaunch event to celebrate the publication of The Gospel of Filth, written by Gavin Baddeley and Dani Filth.

The Location:
Riverside Studios, Hammersmith, London

The Time:
Saturday 21 November 2009, from 11am till 11pm
(first film starts at 12.30pm sharp)

The Tickets:
Tickets are priced at £30 in advance only, and are available to over-18s only on a strictly first-come-first-served basis.

The event will be hosted by author Gavin Baddeley, and the line-up is as follows:

RACE WITH THE DEVIL (18) 12.30pm
(running time 88 minutes)
USA, 1975
director: Jack Starrett
cast: Peter Fonda, Warren Oates, Loretta Swit, Lara Parker
Two couples far from home witness a witches sabbath during which a young girl is sacrificed. The Satanists spot the intruders and proceed to hunt them down remorselessly in this classic chase film that is part road movie and part occult horror flick.

(total running time 40 minutes):

ON EDGE (18)
(running time 15 minutes)
GB, 2001
director: Frazer Lee
cast: Doug Bradley, Charley Boorman
An angry businessman arrives at the dentist without an appointment. He gets more than he bargained for in the surgery when he encounters the mysterious Dr. Matthews.

(running time 7 minutes)
GB, 2002
director: Frazer Lee
cast: Doug Bradley, Kirsty Levett
A schoolgirl is kept in detention and is forced to write lines by her teacher. All alone in the eerily quiet classroom, Emily's night becomes a nightmare when she discovers the mystery of the 'Red Lines'.

(running time 18 minutes)
GB, 2009
director: Doug Bradley
cast: Doug Bradley
Following last year's award winning adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's The Outsider, the second film in Doug Bradley's Spine Chillers Series is Edgar Allan Poe's classic tale of murder and madness.

(followed by Frazer Lee & Doug Bradley Q&A, then Doug Bradley signing session in the lobby)

THE DEVIL'S RAIN (18) 4.15pm
(running time 86 minutes)
USA, 1975
director: Robert Fuest
cast: Ernest Borgnine, Tom Skeritt, William Shatner, Ida Lupino, John Travolta, Anton LaVey
This incredible Satanic curse movie is famed for its scenes of melting cult members and for its intriguing cast, including established thesps such as John Travolta and William Shatner. Best of all, Church of Satan founder Anton LaVey appears as the Devil himself!

(followed by book signing session in the lobby with the author of The Gospel of Filth, Gavin Baddeley)

live performance show by Doug Bradley
(show time 75 minutes)
Death. Shakespeare called it "the undiscovere'd country, from those bourn no traveller returns"... but then he never saw Night of the Living Dead... For the first ever time in London, horror star Doug Bradley - famous for his portrayal of Pinhead from the Hellraiser films, and as the narrator on the four most recent albums from Cradle of Filth - will be performing his one man live show 'An Evening With Death'.

(followed by Doug Bradley Q&A)

BLACK SABBATH (15) 9.20pm
(running time 95 minutes)
Italy, 1964
director: Mario Bava
cast: Boris Karloff, Michele Mercier, Lidia Alfonsi, Mark Damon, Susy Anderson
A stunning anthology of supernatural chills, Bava's classic is not only one of the greatest Gothic horror movies ever made, but also the film that inspired the name of the first heavy metal band! Only otherwise available on DVD in Italian language, this is a very rare chance to see the English language version, complete with Boris Karloff's voice on the soundtrack.

I'm holding out for the Spaghetti Western book launch, which I think is early next year.
